Yeah I know, it is been awhile
Well, here is my update. I am trying to move to Los Angeles is 6 months. I am trying to save $3000 so I can go there. I figure that is just enough for me to survive on until I find work and an apartment.
I can't find production work in New York. I worked all summer and as soon as the cold weather hit, I couldn't find any production work. So, I am now working three part time jobs to survive and save money. Job #1 is at Hollywood Video. I make $6 an hour but I can rent a ton of movies for free which saves me money since rent movies is one of my major entertainment expenses. Job #2 is at Merrick Cinemas. I work at the concession stand and at the box office. I also make $6 an hour there but I get to see movies for free which is my biggest entertainment expense. Job #3 is waitressing for a catering company. A friend of mine who was the producer on a short film I worked on this summer started her own catering company and needed waitresses, so I started working for her. It is extremely hard work but I get paid really well. It might not be as hard as I thought it was (I had my first job Saturday night) because I also worked a full shift at Hollywood Video that day and then worked the wedding until 1:30am.
All I do lately is work. Everytime I think of how tired I am or how I can't spend money on anything or that I have no social life, I just think "California" and how things could be better there. I went to Boston and Salem with Cerissa a few weeks ago and we went to this Psychic Fair, and everyone I spoke to said that I needed to move. I have known that I should move to Los Angeles since graduation but I guess I was afraid.
I didn't realize it until I found out about a job opening at Partizan LA. I was working as a Production Assistant for the Pied Piper of Manhattan at the time and I was telling the producer about the job he said "why don't you apply? You are probably questioning it because you are afraid. What do you have to fear?" He really hit home. It was so true, what do I have to be afraid of? I could do anything I put my mind to.
So every since November 1st I have been trying to save money like crazy. Right now I have $50 in my bank account. But I should have a little more of a slush fund when I pay all of my bills.
Well, I think that is a nice little update for now. I got some laundry to do and errands to run. :)
