Weekend In Review

Friday was Gaming Night for Ed, so I spent the evening reading, relaxing, and then handling the Princess and The Pee when Mia wet her bed because I didn't know she'd taken off her pants and diaper before falling asleep. Fun times. I'd put her Dora bedding onto her crib, finally, and she was downright delighted to go to bed, giggling and exclaiming "DORA!" over and over. So when I had to strip the soaked fitted sheet and pillowcase, she pitched a fit and yelled at me for taking away half of her precious Dora bedding.

Did I mention that this was all at about 2am?

Yeah.

Anyway, we survived the night and pretty much all got up together on Saturday morning. Ed and Mia enjoyed a morning of Noggin while I called around to cat rescues and finally, the local Humane Society, which is where I ended up taking our sweetheart stray. I still tear up to think about it, but they're no-kill and she's off of the streets where she was cold and vulnerable. I'm hoping she'll have a home very, very quickly.

After dropping her off and signing some paperwork I went over to PetSmart, drove through the BJ's parking lot (giving up the idea of shopping there for a box of diapers because the parking lot was heaving with fanatical purple people stocking up for parties), then through the Target parking lot (similarly heaving), and then finally to the grocery store where I actually managed to park and exit my vehicle.

At home Ed put everything away, we got Mia down for a nap, I went off to read, and then rounded up the troops a couple of hours later for a trip down to Mom's. Toni, Randy, and three-out-of-four of their children came over for a pizza dinner and rounds of CatchPhrase and Scattergories. Much fun was had, even by Ed, whose opinion of the whole game-night-idea was dubious at best until he actually enjoyed himself. Highlight of the night was Luke assuring us that the word he was trying to get us to say was "from a cow - not chicken". Good to know that chickens aren't from cows...

Ed and I left Mia with her grandparents for the night and wandered into the wilds of Woodlawn for singin' and carousin' with the likes of sweetpea86, hthottie, reggimental, celtikselkie, dawntreader90, K, and two friends brought along by K&J. More fun was had, lots of quotes were made, and my husband wrote me a love note on a karaoke slip. "Don't get much better den dat!"

sweetpea86, hthottie, Ed and I hit the Double T Diner for pancakes and bacon (or variations thereof) to wind down from karaoke, chat up some gossip and dodge wandering rose sellers ("are we stuck at an intersection?!") before finally hitting the road for home. Ed and I made it in the door around 4 and I'm pretty sure I immediately collapsed. I'm lucky I got to my bed first.

Sunday dawned WAY too early and after a brief wake-up at 10am to push back the plans for the day, I finally dragged myself up at 11:30 and started working on some cleaning I had to do, including the stovetop and surrounding areas, sweeping the kitchen floor, cleaning the rabbit cage and vacuuming the dining room. serendipitymyst arrived for the latter part of the cleaning frenzy and eventually, Mom and Mia arrived, Ed woke up, and we settled in to hammer out the details and start the bookings for our Ireland/Scotland trip. We had to make some changes to our original itinerary, but all's good and we have places to stay and transportation from Ireland to Scotland. All that's left is booking cars when/where we need them and drafting our ideas of things to do in which cities.

And I need to send off for Ed's passport and my replacement at the end of the month when the funds will allow.

After the house emptied out, Ed made homemade pizza (with flour this time, not confectioners' sugar) for dinner, Mia went to bed, and I chatted up MyKnottieWifeLisa via email and devoured a couple of books before bedtime.

So, all-in-all, we had a fan-freakin'-tabulous weekend with friends and family alike. Today it was back to work for a fairly low-key day and now I'm enjoying a quiet evening with my husband. Mia's in bed and I have a book waiting for me. Whee!
