I left work just before 2 today, which put me home in the middle of Mia's naptime. I left her sleeping at daycare and came straight home, trying to figure out what I was going to do for a few hours, and as I was walking in the door, I decided... clean.
I moved the end tables and coffee table, Mia's toys, the torch lamp and the TV stand out of the living room. I vacuumed the corners that rarely get touched because they're under furniture, moved the couches away from the walls to get under and behind them, took the pillows and cushions off to vacuum under them (OMG ew), and even vacuumed the curtains a bit until the attachment clogged up. I got off about 60% of the cat hair, at least, from the curtains. Progress!
I also vacuumed the seam between carpet and wall and the baseboards, thanks to the handy attachments. I vacuumed the curve of the carpet as it goes into the basement, also covered in cat hair because the cat door is just above it. I vacuumed off the couch cushions themselves. And I unclogged the roller three times, emptied the canister six times, and changed the belt all by myself. This involves a screwdriver, people. Ed always does it. I don't. I hate getting dirty and there's a lot of dust in a vacuum - did you know that? I was sweaty and filthy by the time I was done, but so freakin' proud of myself.
So then I put the living room back together, dismantled the dining room (considerably easier) and vacuumed in there. I put it back together, emptied the coat closet, and swept inside. Holy crap was it disgusting in there. I put the vacuum and assorted crap away in the coat closet, dumped a load of stuff down the basement steps to be stored down there, and then went to empty the kitchen and swept it out.
Now I'm on the couch, feet up, just ate a piece of danish and am guzzling water. I feel very accomplished, especially if you take into account the fact that I emptied the dishwasher before bed last night and put away three loads of clean laundry this morning before I left for work.
In the spirit of optimism that my productivity continues, here's the weekend To Do List:
1. Go with Ed to Men's Wearhouse and decide on tuxes
2. Go with Ed to Bed, Bath & Beyond to begin registering
3. Move rabbit cage and vacuum office thoroughly.
4. Vacuum Mia's room, hallway, and our room.
5. Sweep basement.
6. Wash sheets off of our bed and Mia's.
7. Ed: Clean kitchen counters, stove top, and range hood.
8. Ed: Clean master bathroom and powder room.
9. Ed: Clean out plastics' recycling bin.
That's not too terribly much, right? It's feasible to get done over a three-day weekend without feeling like all we're doing is cleaning and running errands. I can sweep the basement tonight, wash the sheets tomorrow during the day, and start on vacuuming the upstairs. Saturday we can do tuxes in the morning, come home to relax, I can finish the vacuuming. Sunday was can do Bed, Bath & Beyond. Ed can do his stuff whenever, I don't care, long's it's done by Sunday - I want a nice, clean house going into Monday. If possible. I guess we'll see.
