Ghostbusters and Great Southern Gathering

We spent this week preparing for an SCA event - The Great Southern Gathering... a weekend of A&S classes and rapier. We had a housesitter who did a wonderful job; she even washed her sheets and emptied the bins! wow!
We had some house guests for the week. The previous weekend was Prova Dura which we could not attend.
Pity. The local Baron and Baroness were made Pelicans (service award) and our friend was presented with a Grant of Arms (for service). I am hoping to see pics of this soon.

80s Heroes Night:
We had previously organised to attend a 80s heroes party and had ordered costumey things... we went as Ghostbusters.

We had been organised into 3 teams: Gorborchov (ours), Reagan and Thatcher... the Ruskies won!!!!! yeah us!!!

This weekend, we had Mistress Mathilde and Sir Steven staying at our place. They could not stay for GSG. They gave us a handturned wooden candlestick made by Steven himself.
Last week, Chris from Ynys Fawr (Tasmania), stayed with us, until today. He gifted us with some cords made by Ynys Fawrians...

Great Southern Gathering
This was a weekend of A&S classes and rapier classes. We stayed at the camp for the weekend, as the drive would have been over an hour each way. Unfortunately, I had a pinched nerve,in my right arm, most of the week and was told not to lift or use the arm too much. there went the rapier classes... hmmm...

On the Saturday I attended a Making Gesso class by Antonia. I have been wanting to paint with egg tempura for some time, so this class was a godsend! It is much easier than I had thought!
I watched a few other classes - lampwork beads - and was really impressed with the results!
I did, against Dr's orders, do two rapier classes on gaining the sword and basic rapier - to refresh my memory... My arm was killing me later... should listen to Drs... hmmmm...
so I just watched the rapier after that...
I taught a class on 16thC Florentine tailoring and notes will be available online on my website, and upcoming in Cockatrice and Lochac Virtual Collegium.

Saturday night, we had a feast. Yummy food as usual. I wasn't feeling crash hot and someone went flash crazy with their photos :( , so I ended up with a migraine. We also had another attendee, in our cabin, with a migraine who threw up all night...poor guy! We went for caffeine supplies for him, in the morning. That seemed to help.

Sunday was the first rapier Cut and Thrust tournament in this continent (they had one in New Zealand recently)... Though it took a lot longer than expected, it was good to watch. It was won by Don ibn Jelal (sitting).

I attended a class on egg tempura painting; I was surprised on all the layers and the really dark colouring ofthe underpainting... oh, my. I bought some pigments, so I can have another go.
I also ran a class on making thread covered/ woven buttons.

I met some new people, caught up with some I have not seen for ages, learnt some new things, saw some great rapier, got to have a go at rapier again myself...
Overall, am very happy, though am recovering from a gastro that was going around the event... and have not made it back to work as yet...
sigh.. no gardening done in this glorious Spring weather... ugh

I am hoping the cuts work... sorry if they don't
