Now, nobody die of shock here, but it appears the national legislature actually managed to do something. It seems that the House of Representatives passed a health care reform bill--with a public option!

Truly, I am shocked, but rather pleased. Sure, it has it's flaws. The prohibition against paying for abortions, for example, seems like a really cruel attempt to punch women in the face when they are already down. Still, though, it is a step in the right direction

Now the Senate must approve its own bill, and for some reason I do not understand, they need 60 votes to do it. (Seriously, someone explain that one to me. It does not jive with what I learned in gov/econ). This is a body that was only able to pass an anti-rape-of-government-contractors amendment by 68-30, mind, so my cynacism may yet be justified.

Still, PUBLIC OPTION! WOOT!
