Ok, so I got a second cat and after much long debate, I decided to name her "Kaylee", as in Firefly. She's cute, she's easing into the good graces of the aloof and cranky Captain (my other cat, Rogue), it's impossible to make her anything less than happy and excited, and if the word "shiny!" could actually come out of her mouth, she'd be saying it

Our dogs have the names they came with. One's a Zoe, but she came that way, we didn't choose it.

I only name my pets after relatively obscure historical figures.

My parakeet was a rescue and came to me with a name already that I did not want to change (she'd been through enough).

However, one of my coworkers had acquired a female kitten she called Zippy from the pound, and when Zippy proved to be a bit timid, my coworker acquired a second female kitten from the pound, fierce and feisty and fearless, to liven things up and inspire Zippy. She was looking for suggestions for a name for her newer kitten, a name that would work with Zippy.

You can guess what I suggested and why. And so Zoe was named. :-)

And she also doubles as a very cute lolcat.
