happy anniversary

Feb 10, 2007 11:28

When I first met Mel, it was on the Popscene dancefloor via my friend Nicki.
I was married and told Mel that I intended to stay married (despite obvious signs to the contrary).
Mel lived in Davis and I lived in Oakland.
On our first date, Mel didn't speak a word but I was impressed by her choice of music (Animosity) and stickers/buttons of bands such as SOIA and All Bets Off.
I told her that we were dressed like the Himsa fanclub.
On our first New Years Eve together, after me dancing shirtless at a bar, we retired to my brand new divorcee apartment and slept on the floor.
Mel helped me move everything into that apartment.
On Feb.10th, 2004, after purchasing tickets for the Redemption 87 reunion, we made it "official." I cried because I had been convinced that I would die a ruined man without love.
Mel helped me through years of deep depression accompanied by nightmares, night-sweats, and anxiety.
Mel taught me how to love again and love in a new way.
Mel is more than my lover that I can explore desires with.
Mel is my best friend. I can't think of another person I would rather go to punk shows with, look at art with, or spot on a benchpress.
Mel is my comrade. We can discuss (and disagree on) political struggle. We can hate god and religion together. She can challenge me and together I feel revolution is that much closer.
This is forever.
I love Melanie.
