elections

(I would probably post this on my official blog but that is currently on hiatus)
Yesterday was "midterm elections".

As an anarchist or travelling in anarchist circles, I got to hear some pro and anti voting voices.
Reasons why we need to vote (on some things) were eloquently spelled out by comrades Mel and Harjit.
Some anarchists that think a high moral ground is going to acheive something just by being pure told us not to vote (voiced by douchebags Yosef and This Time Tomorrow).
____

the morning after...

Leading up to voting, I always seem to get some faith that progressive forces might gain ground.
I am usually let completely down.

Well, Democrats gained a lot of ground.
I guess Republicans basically have to molest children, do drugs, lie, invade countries, and kill the economy in order for the weakling Dems to pretend to be an opposition party.

All that Schwarzenegger has to do is pretend he cares about the environment and CA Liberals fall in love with the fascist.
Right-wing anti-abortion fucker, McClintock BARELY lost.
______

The proposition I was most concerned about that would have required minors to get parental consent for an abortion lost. whew!
(So any anti-voters out there- Fuck you for not helping defend our sisters' ability to get an abortion!)

Prop.90 lost and I think that is good.

The oil industry sure pumped out enough propaganda to defeat the 'alternative fuel prop' even with Clinton & Gore supporting it.
I expected it to pass.

The cigarette tax didn't pass.
This one surprised me.

Another propostion I felt strongly about was the tightening of restriction placed on sex offenders.
What a fuckin joke.
I voted against it but fully expected it to win with the hysteric masses. Schwarzegger even put his name on it... which he didn't do to any other proposition.
A judge has already blocked it as unconstitutional.
(I think any politician that supports a proposition/measure that is found to be unconstitutional should be expelled from office. Any citizen who votes for one should be required to take a basic civics class.)
________

It is always interesting to see how your immediate community/county voted.
Alameda County was much more in-line with my voting than the state as a whole.
