I hate the rings too.
I have my mother's diamond from her engagement ring so I just need a setting. I looked at engagement rings at several different stores. ALL engagement rings are White Gold and have about 50 diamonds superglued onto them, so my dreams of a simple gold solitaire were dashed. Then.... I finally found a ring that I liked!

really? but it was made of silver and had a tiny diamond.
So I took my diamond and a picture of the ring to Dominion Jewelers. They were astonished that my request was so simple. "We can do that!" they said. I countered, well I'd be interested in any other designs that incorporate the swirly design type deal. "We don't have ANYTHING like that."
Ok, fine, I'll just take the JC Penny ring in yellow gold.... for a 100% markup... and that isn't including the price of the diamond.
