Convergence was, as usual, a great time. We had a hotel room this year, which makes things so much easier - I like being able to take a shower before changing for the evening, and it's nice to have a place to change clothes that isn't the restroom. Not to mention not having to spend the time driving back and forth and finding a place to park.
I actually didn't go to many panels this year. I did get to the "Neil Gaiman: American God" panel, which was a fun discussion, and the Pun-El, which is more or less required for me. I also greatly enjoyed the "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Dungeon" panel. I spent way too much money, which is also not unusual. But I got two new necklaces - a pendant made from mammoth ivory (the carving is a horse's head with an eagle's head below), and another with a gorgeous Celtic lion design with amber. Plus Ed got me a new t-shirt that says "And then Buffy staked Edward. The End." Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed reading Twilight, and I do plan to read the rest of the series. But I just can't help being amused by all the overwrought angst over Edward and how romantic it all is. Romantic? Let me see...controlling - check...manipulative - check...stalking - check...oh, yeah, it's romantic, all right....
My floor host shifts up on the 22nd floor were pretty quiet - I think that might be an advantage to doing them early in the day. I did see some communication issues this year - it seems as though we were getting multiple people signed up for the same volunteer shifts. But I don't know if that was just a few glitches, or a symptom of a more widespread issue. Might be worth asking about. I definitely don't want to cast blame. I know how difficult it is to coordinate all that information...if anything, I want to try to understand the actual scope of the problem, and I'm definitely interested in trying to help solve it if need be. The Vilification Tennis show rocked, and Spooky Spooky Scary Scary was actually awesome. Think basically well-meaning, but thoroughly incompetent Cthulu cultists...looking for new recruits.
Anyway, we had a good time at the parties, too. It always amazes me how much time and money people put into their room parties - they do an awesome job!
The only sad part is, I seem to have come down with a case of post-convention crud. All day yesterday I had a fever hovering around 100 degrees, with body aches, sore throat, etc. Today I felt some better, but called in sick to work because I still had the sore throat and fatigue. I plan to go back tomorrow. I think the extra day was nice, and at least I have the vacation hours, although I'd rather not have used them. Still, I wouldn't have been much use if I'd been there today.
