Random Fandom Stuff
Note: This post is random in that I will cover two unrelated topics. The fandom will remain consistent.
1.) Any East Coasters going to New York on Thursday to try to catch TW's appearance on Fallon? I'm totes going and would be happy to meet up with peeps.
Thursday's going to be crazy in NYC. Obama's going to be at Ground Zero and I might try to catch some of that. It'll be historic and very emotional. The part of me that doesn't have my priorities straight worries it'll interfere with late night talk show tapings, but if it does I'll recover.
2.) There's always unpleasantness in the SV fandom. Wank, I believe, is a spectator sport so sometimes I get a bag of popcorn and enjoy the unpleasantness, but most the time I try not to get involved*. Recently friends of mine have been the subject of stupid shipper war attacks. I'm sure the three people on the offensive feel they have just cause, but from the outside they look like assholes.
What's hurt my friends most is that people who are friends with both them and the shipper war soldiers haven't come out to say the behavior is wrong. Their silence seems to support it.
It got me thinking about the few times I've seen stupid shipper war posts on my flist. I don't believe I've ever commented on those posts**, but I haven't taken a stand against them either. That's going to change.
From now on if I see an unlocked post*** attacking people just because they ship a certain pairing (any pairing) or if I find out about this kind of behavior on Tumblr or Twitter I'm gonna say something. I won't say it publicly and I'll try not to be rude, but I'm gonna let people know that I think their behavior is hurtful and unnecessary. I'll do it privately, one on one, because I'm not trying to be the shipper war morality police and because people are often in a better place to listen when they don't have to defend themselves publicly.
I don't want my silence to condone behavior that hurts others.
And now I'll get off my high horse and squee.
