Yet another crazy cosplay idea.... << >>;

Apparently, when I get an idea in my head, it STAYS in my head, hijacks my brain and throws all common sense out the window. @_____@

So yeah. Due to a number of circumstances (a few people encouraging the idea, surfing the internet and finding pics like this, and rewatching some DtB episodes), I'm basically 100% for the idea of cosplaying as Hei from Darker Than Black for some future convention, whether or not it'll be Tekkoshocon or Ohayocon or Colossalcon or whatever. Why? Because he's Chinese, badass, bipolar, channels electricity and has the sweetest personality in the world. XD (We've been over my obsession with him many times, I think.)

OBVIOUSLY, I don't think I'll be doing as good of a job as that amazing cosplayer I just showed you, because that is the best shot of a Hei cosplayer EVER.

His blade might give me problems, but I found this awesome tutorial on how to make foam blades on cosplay.com that I'm willing to try. (Key word being "try".) I'll have to buy a foam cutter and stuff though, so if anyone has any special tips on how to use that, that'd be great. ._. And I have to figure out his blade's proportions and the layering, especially with the round thingy that he has at the hit. (The blade itself will have to be two layers of foam because it's double-edged, right? So does that mean the hit will have to be two layers on top of THAT to make the circular part stick out? Ugh, my brain hurts already. ;A; I'm not an architect, I don't like thinking in 3-D.)

His mask scares the crap out of me but it looks like it's going to be SO FUN. I've always kind of sucked at it, but I love clay and I'm totally willing to try it. Check out this awesome tutorial if anyone's interested. It's making a Hello Kitty mask with Sculpamold, which looks like a great material after you sand it down and paint it. (It's stronger than typical clay, I think. I'm just worried about the fact that it dries fairly fast and how I'm going to get an elastic in there without it showing up in pictures.) I'm going to have to wait until after all the supplies get in and maybe after summer altogether because of all the waiting time and the sanding time. Not that I couldn't get it done in the three weeks of summer I have left at school, but I kind of don't want to damage it and I also will have presentations coming up and a lot of packing to do.

His hair should be relatively easy. If this wig won't work, I'll try a longer one and trim it if I have to, now that I'm not terrified of trimming wigs anymore, lol.

Found a nice coat already. ^_-

Funny story about his shoes. They basically are old-fashioned Chinese slippers like these, and I saw the perfect pair at Tekkoshocon 2008 and bought them IN THE SLIGHT CHANCE that I'll cosplay Hei in the future. (I think I know myself too well. ^^; ) They're floating around somewhere, most likely in the basement of my dorm. (The funny thing about those shoes is that my grandpa totally had a pair.)

So, I guess the whole point of this post was to ask for some suggestions and stuff.
1. How hard is it to use a foam cutter? And is there anything about foam I should know before I tackle this? It seems pretty straight forward but knowing me, I'll run into some sort of trouble at some point.
2. Anyone know if a generic art store sells insulation foam?
3. Any tips for working with Sculptamold? It doesn't seem like a lot of people know how to use it online but I figure I'd just ask. :(

Cool thing is, a girl I met at Tekkoshocon that I talk with constantly online is willing to watch Darker than Black and possibly cosplay a character with me next year at Tekkoshocon. 8D OMG SO EXCITED.
