It was a lovely night, just warm enough to leave the windows open, but cool enough for a blanket. I was dreaming about Jana and Briana getting into a fight with my high school band teacher and using my flute as a bludgeon. Just before learning the outcome I hear screeching tires, police sirens, people shouting and dogs barking like mad. It took me a full two minutes to realize that I was actually awake now. I could see flashlights shining on the outsides of the blinds. Up down up down...obviously running. Dogs still barking, loud shouting, people running up and down the street. Eight police cars outside. RIGHT in front of our house. Fear kind of hit me in the stomach. Mostly because I was woken from deep sleep and had absolutely no idea what was going on or if I was in immediate danger. This is why people should wear shirts to bed. You never know if you'll have to run. Luckily I didn't. We peeked out of the front windows to witness the winding down of a police chase that ended, well, right in front of us. They had a very obviously inebriated black gentleman shoved up against one of the police cruisers. The man's Blazer had apparently hit one of our neighbors' cars, which then lovingly crushed the back end of the car in front of it. The man must have run, but they caught him quickly enough. I'm glad they weren't IN our yard. We might never have gotten back to sleep. With all the lights and shouting, it sounded much scarier than it was. Stupid drunk driver. I hope our neighbors have insurance. Jason was glad the guy didn't hit his car, but also kind of sad I think. I'm sure he'd like the option of a new vehicle without actually having to be in an accident.
GAH! It took my stomach a while to calm down even though my brain wasn't scared. Isn't that weird?

Anyway, needless to say, my dreams got much more involved after that. Once I finally went back to sleep...
