My characters have started living on their own

You know when you have a character and you think you're the one who's writing him and he's supposed to be and do and think what you write him to be and do and think? And one day you get up and find out he's been living his own life while you weren't watching? And when you check out, surprise!, he's not the one you believed he was anymore?

If you know, you'll agree with me that it's kinda shocking.
