Okay, here are the results of one of Germany's most popular TV shows (at least in this household)....
The show highlighted several farmers from around Germany who were looking for wives. Some won, others lost. Naturally, these names will mean nothing to you, but I thought y'all would get a kick out of reading about them anyway.
The Losers:
Hansi: as the oldest farmer at 76 he actually had TWO women living in his house at one time, because he couldn't decide between them. Neither of them were meant for the farm. One did nothing but complain, from the state of the bathroom to the food (she even went out and bought something from McDonalds instead!). She didn't stay long. Marianne (66) remained but in the end left with no intention of getting married to this bozo. She tried to convince him that it was time to retire and actually have a life... he wasn't going to have one much longer. Nicht! So stupid... they promised to remain friends.
Thilo: in his early 40s. We cried when Sylvia decided he wasn't for him. Actually, it was the other way around as far as we were concerned. He could do much better. Thilo is sweet and shy, wears glasses and is not very tall. He really tried, but Carola was too condescending in my opinion. The good news is that with national TV exposure, I'm sure he'll be inundated with thousands of letters from women who will want to meet him. Hopefully, he'll find Ms. Right.
Heinrich: We were really rooting for him and Anya, but in the end they decided to just remain friends. Not to worry though... Heinrich is now a recording star with his first (sold-out) cd. I don't think he's hurting too much.
Günne: Actually he lost and won. His ex-girlfriend dumped him, so he went searching for someone else. Ex-girlfriend saw him on TV and decided "Hmmm.... maybe I was too hasty." Goes back to lover-boy and Günne decides to give it another go so "Auf Wiedersehen" to the poor woman whom he had chosen as a substitute. Thing is, Günne is so in love with himself it's not going to last. He pumps iron and shows up at the breakfast table without a shirt. I told Nina that he probably has a picture of himself tacked to his mirror that he kisses every night before going to bed. She agreed.
The Winners:
Frank: he was the most romantic of them all and Claudia is one lucky Frau. What's really sweet is that she has a baby boy from a previous relationship (I never learned if she was divorced, a widow, or a single mom) yet he accepted both mama and baby immediately. Just before she had to leave to go back home he led her blindfolded to a field where there was a tractor. Earlier, with the help of friends, he attached a large banner to it and placed roses on it, so when the front of the tractor was raised, the banner unfurled and the roses dropped. The banner (in German of course) basically said: "Claudia, you're the light of my life and I want to spend the rest of my life with you". Eventually she returned to him and they started building a new house because the old farmhouse was too small and they were interested in having children of their own. They went shopping for furniture and lying on Claudia's 'dream bed' he asked her to marry him and she said, "I would be honored to carry your name". Isn't that the coolest answer you've ever heard?
Jan: from Saarland! which is the region of Germany where I am living. Our friend Uwe knows the family. He and Anna hit it off immediately. They're both in their early 20s and are a perfect match.
Uwe: (not ours but another Uwe). We weren't sure about him at first because he is rather gruff but we came to realize it was just his way. He and Carolin we think will actually make it. There was a really funny scene where they were looking at horses, because Uwe said he would buy Carolin a horse (she's a rider). Anyway, they got poor Uwe, who is rather heavy, onto the horse as well. You should have seen him. Even before he was on the poor beast he was sweating from nerves and kept wiping his face with his handkerchief. He even had to get on the horse via a step-ladder and getting him off the horse was an adventure in itself. Definitely not a horse person. Nina was hysterical and kept saying, "Oh, the poor horse".
Torsten: He's a yummy according to Nina. His first choice wasn't right for him, and she left... a real snob anyway so good riddance. Then he found Katharina who is definitely right for him (they're both dog lovers and their dogs get along just fine). We were all happy that it worked out for him.
Georg: Now this one we couldn't understand. Nina and I are both convinced that Carola is desperate. The man has no manners whatsoever. She would make this lovely meal for him and all he could do is complain. Yet she came back to him. Go figure. The funniest part was when she left (the women are only allowed to stay for a certain length of time and then have to return to their own lives) he says to her, "I brought you some flowers" and then thrusts out this bouquet but he's holding it upside-down! We were on the floor in hysterics.
So there you have it.... they're planning on doing another show featuring single female farmers looking for a hubby. That should be interesting.
