a bit of a freak, to be honest.

So I have this compulsive habit. If I prick my finger while sewing, I dab the spot of blood in the seam allowance of whatever I'm working on. No idea why: be it a blood sacrifice for good luck, superstition or whatever. I just thought I'd share because I admitted that amongst friends while at Arisia and none of them thought I was terribly ( Read more... )

It's a cumpulsion, for sure. Even when I have a tissue handy and have dabbed it on that, I still go back and put one spot on the costume.

Or, maybe it's just another way of personalizing your art? Or a watermark to prevent duplication.

Do sweat and tears have DNA in them? Because most of what I make has a good dose of those, too.

I've always been told that it's good luck to bleed on a costume, actually. Well, as long as it's on the inside and won't be seen by the audience. :)

Actually, I bled on the front busk of a white corset that I made. It was for an historical competition, so I knew it was going to get handled by the judges before I put it on and the blood spots were right in front. I ended up embroidering some little pink flowers down the front. The judges completemented me on my attention to details for decorating an undergarment.

That's the thing I love about historical costuming: if you faff something up, you just embellish the shit out of it and no one's ever the wiser.

I haven't heard of that before, that's interesting!

I don't think I could do that; knowing me, I'd get blood somewhere that showed!
