Some pierce hearts; others pierce wicked holes in their skin..

Well. There it is.
Seems the tattoo'll have to wait. My bothersome 'skin condition' demands it, until next year at least.

-Long, lingering sigh...-

BUT! Yes, there is a "but" involved, my wonderful friends. The other good news is that... well, if I can't tattoo it on my birthday, I might as well pierce it. Am I right? Well, at least I thought so. As I'm way too excited to post an actual comprehensive, sensible post right now, it came about in the doctor's office, whence I thought up the fantastic idea of getting the non-standard piercing I've also always wanted to have (besides my own standard lobes). I know I would've gotten it anyway if I hadn't been planning on getting a tattoo first. It was either one or the other, as they say. I haven't told my 'mam yet, but I'm sure she'll freak for, oh, the first ten minutes or so... and then proceed to ask me where I want to get myself pierced. It tends to work like that. Haha. And, let me tell you, she'd know as well as I do, because I'm still rather undecided about what exactly I want to get. Or should I say, I'm still "fine-tuning" my choices to be sure I really do want what I want. In any case, I still have a fair amount of time to choose. And as I usually do, I've managed to narrow it down to a few considerable options. Four options, that is. To give all who's vaguely interested a short breakdown with pictures included, the pictures go from highest desire, to lowest desire. The four options being considered:
(Left to right: Conch piercing, Helix piercing, Auricle [rim] piercing, Forward Helix piercing.)

So, since that's that, it appears that the 'conch piercing' is my most desired one, eh? And as a further note, the conch piercing shown here is an inner conch, and is not the one I mainly want (though, I'd probably like to someday). There's also a conch called an outer conch piercing, which is the one I'm leaning towards the most. Another picture treat:
(Left to right: Inner conch piercing, outer conch piercing.)

But yes, the conch. Now that I really think of it, I think this will end up being the first piercing I get. And then I'll most likely proceed to get a helix orbital (same as a regular helix, except the ring goes through two separate holes on the rim of the ear -- less common), or even a just forward helix. But, who knows. As far as the pain level goes, I'm not all that worried. Apparently it varies from person to person. But for Christ's sake, I already have to stab my own self once a week with a 25 g. needle (and then go on to 'inject' myself. Bevel up! Odd medical reasons.) So needless to say, my slight 'fear' of needles is slowly dwindling down to some sort of weird minor adrenaline rush(?), although the fear was already rather slight. Anyhow...

Another thing I'm still wondering about is if I should go with a dermal punch for my conch, rather than regular needle piercing. A dermal punch is when they use a tool to cut out the flesh/cartilage on the ear, so that there's an actual hole left. The whole 'hole' deal (heh) sort of weirded me out a bit... so I think I'm going with the traditional needle, even if it may heal slower. It'll already take about a year for the piercing to heal, anyway. Excitement has settled in! My friends are probably going to look at me like I fell from the sky's ass when I tell them I decided to do this, instead of my tattoo.

"Can't keep a hungry dog down for long", wasn't it?

EDIT - 8/3/09: Seems I'll just be going with the needle, 'stead of the dermal punch, since I don't plan on gauging/stretching.

birthday, piercing
