I know what time it is.

It's 1am, I need to be up in seven hours, but it's to go to Stratford with my grandmother and her sister. It's a week past my birthday (now that it's Saturday again). It's fall. It's almost Halloween. It's time to look for a new job. It's time to write.

I keep myself very busy with all sorts of nonsense, some of it more essential, most not so much. Some of it is work, which is essential for such as food and shelter, but that's no excuse. My time with friends and family has never seemed more excusable, nor has it ever seemed more tightly squeezed into my life. I had supper with my dad yesterday, and he said he was looking for work that paid more money for less time. I think I can get behind that. Right now I'm getting less money for more time, which seems to suggest that I have yet to internalize my father's wisdom.

On Tuesday I will call back my prospective employer. I will attempt to appear brilliant, charming, diligent and generally delightful. If I'm very lucky they will hire me to help them do the interwebs. Then it will be only two more weeks of shouting and crazy until I can leave the gallery. Not that the gallery is all bad, I just have this thing about abuse: it's not for me.

My gaming life has been on hold for a little while. There is some hair-pulling here, but good vibes will prevail and I foresee fields of green and all that in our near future. I will soon be taking on the (self-assigned) role of juvenile sharpshooter/infantryman in Jon Stanton's Certain Standers, an elite mercenary unit. We will fight our enemy, or the enemy of our employers, or just simply for our lives, all in Iron Kingdoms, a delightful if perhaps overly quirky D&D setting. That's not to say that Seb, Victor, Hanlar and Jassa aren't waiting to tell more of their stories as well. I feel confident that all will be returned to waking soon enough (except for poor Victor, who has to wait at least until Christmas).

Stratford tomorrow should be good. Unlike the past two years, we won't be seeing Shakespeare tomorrow night. Instead it's South Pacific, which I hear is getting good reviews. It should be a fun time, and worth spending most of a weekend on.

work, stream of consciousness, gaming, popouri
