The Smell Factor

I've been battling the smell in my apartment for a number of days. I finally determined yesterday that the problem was fridge-related, but nothing in the fridge was rotten or spoiled so I was really confused. Today I wiped down the shelves with antibacterial wipes and then put coffee grounds on three plates and then put the plates on each shelf of the refrigerator. This is apparently supposed to stop the smell. But it really just replaces the smell with the smell of coffee. Less pungent, yes, but still smelly. Tomorrow I will throw out the coffee (I don't drink it, nor do I have a coffee machine so there goes an entire bag of coffee to waste) and then put some baking soda on plates and repeat the process. Hopefully at the end of the day I will have a stench free apartment.

It's hard with a studio apartment because smell can take over the entire space. Kitchen smells, garbage smells, bathroom smells, dirty laundry smells... you get the idea. The worst thing is waking up and smelling garbage. It doesn't happen very often but I have to be constantly vigilant. Luckily I have a utility closet for my recycling and I can always put the trash out on the balcony if things get smelly and I don't have time/energy to take out the trash.

The worst part about this most recent smell is that I've been so stuffed up that I couldn't really sniff out the smell. I'm kind of famous for my sense of smell. People in my freshman dorm used to ask me to sniff out the smells in their rooms to find the source. This time I was totally unable to find the source with my nose, and had to use my brain. My brain told me it was the trash, the sink, and the bathroom, in that order. When all of those were sorted and it still smelled I finally sniffed out the fridge.

I know this is a fascinating entry and everyone want to know about my fridge smells, but that's what I want to write about right now.
