Was I ever that bad?

So imagine sitting around a camp fire with the sun rising over the trees, smelling wonderful breakfast cooking. Now imagine the other five people sitting with you are plotting to murder you. Not only that, they think you agree it is a good idea!

That was my Saturday morning. I went with Sandy to visit friends who live back home. I expected there to be some talk of religion, it is a given when they are all more conservative than you are.

So let's see, the main themes of the morning:
Obama is evil/muslim-extremist
We are at war, spiritually speaking
The end is coming

So yeah, that went down really well with my breakfast.

I am all for people being passionate about what they believe, but you need to have the whole story.
Make an informed choice, don't believe what someone tells you just because you are afraid it my be true.

No, I was never this bad. Even in the days when I was similar, I was still more moderate than them.

And what would have happened if I said I disagreed? I would have been told I was wrong, and then heard about it all day long. I like to think that if the option was reversed, I could at least be willing to listen and agree that you make good points.

Is it so hard to believe that no one person has all the answers?

If I had told them what I really thought, and how I felt, I would have come home without my friends. People who I have laughed and cried with, been there for and in turn have been there for me.
