Happy New Year, I guess. I know for a lot of my friends 2009 was a bear so I'm guessing for them 2010 is a welcome change. So far, it's been SSDY (Same Shit Different Year) for me. I have no real expectations that this year will be better than the last. I don't usually do resolutions for the New Year, because I set goals when I need to, regardless of the time of year. This year, I've decided to make a few, privately, because the need happens to coincide with the time of year.
Mom is home. Her legs, for the first time in several years, are completely healed of ulcerations. The cynic in me is waiting for them to open up again once she gets back to her bad habits. Our relationship hasn't changed for the better, it remains, as always, tense. I saw stuff that needed doing at her house and just did them and she jumped on me, saying "What didn't I do now?!" No good deed goes unpunished in my life with Mom. If I resolve anything revolving around Mom it will be to ignore the negative commentary that comes from her.
If what we do the first few days of the New Year determines the rest of the year, then I'll be beading a lot. I'll also be maintaining peace with my family members. Both are good.
Bree is still buried under a mound of homework but she's knocking it out, slowly but surely. She was very well behaved on our trip to Great Wolf Lodge and her smart ass remarks have been kept to a minimum. All good in my book.
Great Wolf Lodge was okay, but certainly not worth the premium we paid for a holiday week. There needs to be more activities geared toward adults and teens. The spa was wonderful though and I'd to the Elements Spa again, if the occasion arose. On our second day there, Howard flipped over in an inner tube while on a water slide and came close to breaking his nose on the bottom of the pool. Luckily he only has a few scrapes and a bruised and swollen nose to show for it. Great Wolf's emergency crew is top notch and Howard made sure to let a manager know how well they responded. Overall, though, it was a good trip.
May everyone's New Year be what you need it to be.
