A note to a Certain Pedestrian

Mar 11, 2008 09:31

The sign in front of the entrance to the garage says, "Stop for Pedestrians in Crosswalk" and, indeed, I do, as well as pedestrians just about the enter the crosswalk.

This does not mean it's a good idea to run out in front of my car from where you were, 20 feet away, after I've already started rolling because there wasn't anyone in the crosswalk.

What, you can't see around corners? Dude!

Srsly, at the top of the laneway behind my house (how I get to my parking) there is a building right up to the edge on either side. Pulling out is always fun because the peds simply cannot comprehend that cars (drivers, obvy) can't see them.

Heh. This isn't even around corners, it's a straight and visible and open area for driver and pedestrian. There's great visibility, otherwise I'd have an idiot-shaped dent in my car.

Want pictures!
Seriously, some pedestrians behave in a stupid manner simply because the law says the driver is responsible in all circumstances (or so it seems to me).
It time for an amendment that says "This law does not apply to idiots."

Can we introduce that pedestrian to the driver who barreled out in front of me this morning when I was already halfway across the street in the crosswalk?

That's a possibly-excellent idea.

I'll throw in three folks who thought it was a groovy idea to cut across two or three (depending on the idiot) lanes of a highway, within two feet of the front of my car, without signaling, yesterday. Put 'em all on a demolition derby track and tell 'em only one comes out. Solves four problems, at least.

Incidentally, the driver had a bumper sticker for a presidential candidate. (I won't say which one.) If you're going to drive like that, you should probably have a sticker for the candidate you like least.

Hah! This morning on my way to work, two such idiots jaywalked in front of me as I was driving down Wilshire Boulevard. I recalled as I stopped for each of them that that was how Jerry Rubin died (albeit a couple of miles farther along).

Sic semper scofflaws!
