On Sunday I made my way into New York City to go see
Sleater-Kinney at
Terminal 5. It's a pretty decent venue, so long as you don't mind standing (because there aren't any seats), but I haven't been there since I saw
Metric back in 2010.
Sleater-Kinney is a band I never got to see the first time around back in the 1990s, so I was really excited about this tour. It was well, well worth the wait. They're a very high-energy band, not at all quiet. They played through most of their current album, No Cities to Love, and a decent amount of older stuff.
The bonus was during the encore. The crew brought out an extra microphone, which made it obvious that they were going to have a guest vocalist. It turned out to be
Portlandia's Fred Armisen for what was an AMAZING cover of the
B-52's Rock Lobster. Someone's posted
video of the performance that I recommend you watch. It doesn't capture ALL of the energy of it, but it's pretty good.
