Athena's got nothing on her...

Ok, I'm definitely glad that Satan's Day is over with. I'm finishing up my history presentation with Kash tomorrow, and I somehow survived the other three also. With work after school for five hours, I'm definitely beat at the moment.

But I'm going to dig deep into my energy reserves to write my 22nd senior spotlight. Maybe you already got an idea of who I'm going to write about from the title, but if not, you need to study your Greek mythology more. Know now? Of course you do, so give it up for...

Ok, so on the first day of soccer camp before the start of freshman year, the first two people I met in the state of NJ were Walter Dempsey and Peter Greberis. I soon learned that Peter lived really close to me, so throughout much of the soccer season, I got a ride home from practice with him frequently. I mention all this because I first met Georgina when her mom gave Peter and me a ride home one day while Georgina was sitting in the front seat, returning from a grueling field hockey practice. She stuck with field hockey for a good three years despite Nazi coaches and intense training/practice schedules, among other things. However, I didn't really get to know Georgina much during the first few years of high school even though she was in my freshman year bio and PE classes, along with my Spanish and trig/precalc course sophomore year. Call it shyness on my end, I suppose... possibly on her end, possibly on both of ours... just for some reason, we didn't really get to know each other.

However, as this year passed, she started occasionally leaving comments on this LJ, I'd say starting back in like January. I forget specifically when, but in late February or March she had an away message up expressing extreme disappointment and sadness, so I figured I'd check to see what was up. Well, I IMed Georgina at about 10 PM... and we ended up talking until 4 AM the next morning. Whatever subconscious walls we had built up against each other were finally demolished and obliterated as I've never had a longer continuous conversation in my life. It was a neat conversation though as I felt like we were both very misunderstood by others and that we finally got to clarify who we are to each other.

From what I've discovered about her, Georgina has a very kind heart. Her service to her church and the community through being a three year Key Club member and Key Club VP this year has left a lasting impression on her. Because of her involvement in these groups and activities, she considers being a social worker a very possible career for her. And who would dare to degrade it? To imagine how many lives she'd impact and make for the much better. She'd become so meaningful to so many people, inspiring them to live on when their lives seem so bleak and lost. I'm just amazed at how her involvement in Key Club and similar groups has opened her eyes to the numerous possibilities of community service and involvement for her to move on to.

So Georgina, as you do move on to Emory next year, keep reaching out to others around you. May you help as many people as you can. I'd tell you to enjoy your times down there, but I know you don't need me to remind you of that.

Have a great day everyone.

PS - In case you were wondering... I did have the beginning portion of this entry up by mistake last night. I accidentally hit "Enter" while my cursor was over the post entry option, so the beginning got posted. I started to continue last night, but I got way too tired, so I'm just finishing it now at 4:36 PM, on 6/7.
