Ok, so yesterday I watched a lot on the tube. Kash and I watched "Hotel Rwanda" for our history project, which rocked, and then I got to catch the last half-hour of the 2-hour season premier of LAST COMIC STANDING!!! My summer just got more exciting.
Anywho, today was quite frenetic trying to write up the outline to my whole group's bio presentation for most of my classes. I spent an hour today for the blood donating process, so that was interesting. Apparently a lot of people thought I was too squeamish to give blood... for the record, I get squeamish when I see the image of blood getting splattered all over while someone is expressing agonizing pain. Yeah, the needle and more so the first prick are annoying, but they're not worth me fainting over.
Moving on, I had started my 20th senior spotlight yesterday but accidentally changed websites in order to get a web address for Michelle Lee for our group physics project. Thus, I got to start it over. For my 20th, I chose a girl with quite a musical voice. She's got a wintry wonder of a name, and an even greater wonder of a personality. So please, take the time to read my spotlight on...
On the first day of school, I went to my honors biology class with Mr. DiMarco fourth period. Dr. D had an alphabetical seating arrangement already set up, so I found my seat in the back corner of the room. Soon after, Christine entered and seemed quite happy, if not for the first day of high school, then definitely for simply being alive. She found her seat two to my left side, sat down, and soon introduced herself to me. In the beginning of the year, I got to know a lot about her quickly at the beginning of bio class and before Peer Leadership started each week.
I had found out that her case of scoliosis (I more than likely misspelled it and am using the wrong term) caused her to quit running cross-country like she used to back in middle school. I found out soon that she was a very free-spirited person. Heck, she even once said she'd try marijuana if it was legal, lol. Oh yeah, unless you are deaf, you probably already know how amazing of a singing voice she has. It was definitely cool to hear her sing whatever random tune came to her head in the hallways as she always sung them so beautifully.
As I got to know Christine, she definitely resembled my last girlfriend in a lot of ways. Thus, she was the first girl I became quite attracted to in high school. At the Halloween Dance freshman year, I discovered to find out that she was a great dancer when at the time I had two left feet. The evening itself didn't go quite so well for me as I had in her eyes acted too stalkerish. I just wanted to dance with her that night, but I'll admit, I was very shy and terribly nervous for who knows what reasons. The salt on the wounds came afterwards as the two of were paired to work together on a cell part presentation in bio class. Once the presentation was over with, she proceeded to give me the cold shoulder for awhile, but by the end of the year, things luckily got better by the end of the year.
For sophomore year and junior year, we didn't really have any classes together. In the mornings before school started sophomore year when I didn't have to be in at 7 AM, she'd be part of the corner table by the cafeteria entrance waiting to go. She saw me wear my "Ha! Now you can't see me..." shirt one day and insisted upon cutting off the black collar. So I let her, and I must say, the shirt is definitely much better these days now thanks to her tailoring skills. I am more indebted to her though for going with me to junior prom as I'm still surprised that she said yes when I asked her.
I mean, seriously, doesn't anyone else find her singing abilities absolutely stunning? Just this year alone, I've been awed and moved by her solos at Mountaintop Cafe, the spring musical, and the opening of Relay for Life. Yet she's been in madrigals for three years and singing on stage for all four years of high school. Who knows how many other choirs and events she's been a part of.
What's great to hear from her though is her plans to become a music educator as she furthers her education at the Westminster Choir College over the next few years. Those she teaches will certainly appreciate the great gift she has to offer them.
Sleep well, everyone.
