"Your eyes are so blue," Axel said out of nowhere, resting his chin on the blond's chest and watching that narrow face with interest.
A pale eyebrow arched. "What are you talking about," Roxas said. "Is this where you compare me to a midsummer's sky?"
He ignored that comment, although he couldn't help grinning as he thought of Roxas in terms of such prettified beauty. Sunshine hair and pouting bow lips-- and then he would be beaten senseless but he would laugh all the way. "Blue like diamond," Axel elaborated instead, "blue like surgical knives."
They were eyes that could slice a man open and never betray a hint of softness or warmth. Axel was the only one who could get this close to their brilliance without bleeding.
Roxas made a noise in his throat that may or may not have been some form of acknowledgment. It was going to rain again soon, the sky a steely blue outshone by a Nobody, but Axel wasn't willing to move for as long as Roxas was willing to let him lie draped over his chest. He still couldn't quite believe his luck, or the slender leather-clad fingers that had somehow found their way into his hair, stroking it flat against the back of his neck.
As long as they didn't move, this moment felt as if it could stretch into eternity.
"Aren't you going to return the compliment?" Axel asked, smirking. "Tell me how beautiful my eyes are?"
Roxas's attention flickered down to him, crossed his green gaze with something almost confused, and then glanced back up at the drift of gray cloud above them. "I don't have any pretty similes for green ready."
"Aww, you're going to make me cry."
The hand in his hair tightened just enough to be threatening, and then Roxas intoned, deadpan, "Your hair is red like blood. Red like the flashing lights on the ambulance that comes to take away your victims."
Axel choked and hid a fierce grin in the hollow of the blond's neck. "You certainly know how to butter a man up, Thirteen," he purred, and laughed through the yanking on his hair.

OMG! OH MY GOD! You are so cool! YOU ARE BEYOND COOL!
I love it! I LOVE IT! They're both so SO precious. Roxas is hard, sharp and cold in an unintentional sort of way, excatly how I imagined him before Diz brainwashed him. I think in the days of Roxas being number 13, only Axel could (and would dare) to tease Roxas like that(without getting a limb or two chopped off) and only Roxas would humour Axel.

I read that the novels confirmed that Roxas did hear what Axel said, but he didn't believe that Axel meant it, because of course Nobodies don't feel anything. *CRIES*
If only Axel had tackled him and proven it, all would've been well!!

Axel is so masochistic here. As a Nobody, he admires Roxas so violently. It's like the most favorable comparison he can think of is to an instrument of pain. *and technically surgical knives are not instruments of pain, but the image is very cold, very sharp; both images are.* And of course part of it is just baiting Roxas, and because Roxas seemed to expect bunnies and rainbows; part of it is just for shock value; but I get the impression that Axel really does see beauty in those things, too.
All of Axel's lines just make me think again how he's wrapped up in so many layers of lies it's hard to tell what he means and what he doesn't. XD
And Roxas's reply is totally taking Axel's original 'compliment' as a joke...damn. *snicker* But fortunately, in a way, he returns the compliment perfectly, exactly as the first one was given to him.

My Axel is pleased by all these comments you've made. XD Masochism and lies and all.
I really think he does believe that part of what's beautiful about it is how painful it can be -- in a way, any feeling is important to a Nobody, and in another way, he has to keep reminding himself of how Roxas allows him closer than anyone else, because if he forgets how improbable it is that he's this close, it doesn't mean as much.
