"You really do think the calendar might be linked?" Fred said, putting her hand over her stomach, reminding herself what Wesley had said - that it hadn't said anything about good or evil, just that something was coming. She couldn't let this freak her out. Angel had said their child was human with a soul. That was a good thing. That meant this was a good thing.
"It's possible, but we need the book," Wesley said, allowing Rupert to pull him up from his chair. He gave Fred a smile and leaned over to kiss her temple. "Don't worry, Fred. I'm sure it'll show something good if it is connected."
"Have prophecies ever actually predicted good things?" she asked.
"Of course," Rupert said as he steered his lover toward the door. "We'll be back in a bit, but we have our mobiles if you need us."
"Thank you," Fred called after them before they disappeared across the lobby and out the door. Taking a deep breath, she turned to Angel, walking over to him and resting her head against his chest. She took his hand and put it on her abdomen, covering it with her own.
"We've done a good thing," she said softly before looking up at him and giving him a smile. "This wouldn't happen 'less it was a good thing, right?"
Angel watched Giles and Wes walk out of the hotel before he turned around, seeing Fred was standing right there. He smiled when she placed his hand over their growing child. He then wrapped his free arm around her body and pulled her closer.
"It's good, Fred. We're doing something good here or the Powers would've stopped it. They did help me find you in Pylea and they helped us in Romania. It's a good thing. I promise."
Reaching down, he tucked his fingers on her chin and tilted her head up so he could look into her eyes. He ran his thumb over her lips and smiled. "Is there anything you need?" he softly asked, wanting to put her needs first and foremost. "Something to eat? Have you ate yet?"
In the middle of all the excitement, he had forgotten to see if she'd ate yet. "I can get you something from the kitchen or would you rather just rest?" He'd never gotten anyone pregnant before so he didn't know if he was doing anything right.
Fred nodded at what Angel said, knowing that he was right. Everything between them had been right and good, so their baby had to be good too. Of course, he or she would be. This was their child and had been conceived in love. All the things they had done for each other had been in love.
Looking up into his eyes when he lifted her head, she kissed his thumb as it ran over her lips. "No, I haven't eaten. I wasn't much in the mood this morning with being sick, and then I was so worried about what was happening and getting the pregnancy test." Now that she was having a chance to settle down, she was finding that she was actually a bit hungry. "I think something from the kitchen would be really nice."
Taking his hand, she walked with him into the kitchen and opened the refrigerator, grimacing a little at the blood. It normally didn't bother her, but at the moment, it made her stomach flip a little.
"Hmmm...I think we need to go shopping. I didn't realize that we'd been going though so much with Wesley and Rupert staying late as often as they have recently," she said before pulling out some orange juice and bread and some eggs. "Protein's supposed to be good for babies. And vitamin C and folic acid."
She paused before letting out a soft laugh. "We should have asked Wesley and Rupert if they could have picked up some baby books for us. Although they might not have wanted to try to explain that at the book store."
Angel walked into the kitchen with Fred and watched her look into the fridge. Tey were going to have to go shopping for food more often because he knew Chinese and tacos all the time wasn't healthy. He would have to make a grocery list and go to the all-night place some night.
As Fred spoke, Angel nodded and rubbed the back of his neck. Protien, vitamin C and folic acid. He'd have to remember that for hwne he went shopping. He would have to ask Wes to go along with him because he didn't think it would be safe for Fred to go there by herself. She could slip on one of the floors and fall. Especially at night since they mopped the floors then.
"Here, let me. I know how to cook," he said, taking the things from her hands. Maybe he didn't get to eat food, but he knew how to cook some of it. It made him feel more...human.
He cracked the eggs and stirred them up before adding a bit of cheese to the mix. Turning, he smiled at Fred and pulled out a chair for her. "Why don't you sit down. It can't be good for you to be standing on this hard floor," he said, motioning toward the concrete. He then nodded and went back to stirring his eggs.
"If you turn my cell phone on, I'll give them a call and say they need to bring some books back."
If Angel wanted to cook for her, Fred certainly wasn't going to say no. She could make a few things and could follow package directions for food from the freezer or the pantry, but cooking wasn't her strong suit.
Going over to the chair he pulled out for her, she sat down, tucking her feet up on the rail underneath. "Actually you know, I read once that some exercise is supposed to be good for expectant mothers. Maybe I should look into a yoga class or get a book or something. Oh! Maybe there's something we can do together."
She then thought for a moment, wondering if they'd be able to take a lamaze class or if that would even be possible. She supposed they'd have to figure that out.
When Angel told her to turn his cell phone on so he could call Wesley and Rupert, Fred rolled her eyes and shook her head, going over and getting his phone. "Angel, I love you, but I can make phone calls, you know," she told him as she powered the phone up. Once it was on, she dialed Wesley's number.
"Hello?"
"Wesley, it's Fred. We were wondering...would you be able to find some baby books where you're going?"
There was a pause. "I...erm...I'm not sure. We can check, though. Any particular sort of baby book?"
Fred looked at Angel and shrugged in uncertainty. "I...I guess just some books on pregnancy, what to expect, what to do, things like that."
"We'll check. Anything else you two need?"
"Is there anything else you need them to pick up while they're out?" she asked.
Angel let out an unneeded sigh when Fred said she could make the call herself. He just wanted her to be safe and he wished he could make her see that. But, he wasn't going to fight with her about it. Not now at least. They would discuss it later, once everything settled.
"Exercise? I don't know, Fred. I might hurt the baby," he said before she called Wesley. He then realized she wasn't talking about that kind of exercise.
As she spoke to Wesley, Angel put the eggs in a pan and started to cook them before putting a couple of slices of bread in the toaster. When she asked her question, he shrugged and looked around the kitchen. "Milk," he finally said. "Lots of milk. I think you're supposed to drink twenty glasses of it a day."
He was pretty sure he'd seen that in a magazine before. Nodding his head, he finished the eggs and spooned them onto a plate for her. He then placed the toast next to them before pouring her a glass of juice.
"Dinner is served," he said before reaching over to take the cell phone out of her hand.
Fred shook her head at Angel's comment about exercise. They had made love several times since they had conceived and nothing was happened, and she had heard that many people were able to make love up until close to a baby's birth. But they could discuss that later. After all, they had just found out they were going to be parents.
The food Angel was cooking actually smelled really good, and instead of fluttering, her stomach started rumbling. She snorted softly, however, when he mentioned something about her drinking twenty glasses of milk a day. "I'd float away with that much! And probably bloat," she told him. "But you're right - I will need to drink more milk."
"We'll pick some up," Wesley promised. "Anything else?"
Angel placed her food in front of her before reaching for the phone. "I think Angel might want to talk to you," she managed to say before he got it out of her hand. Picking up her fork, she leaned over and kissed him then began to eat. "This is good. Thank you, sweetie."
Angel was sure he'd read twenty glasses. He shrugged at Fred's comment and decided he'd look it up himself. He was sure one of the books had something about it. They were always getting information from them.
As Fred started to eat, Angel turned his back and walked over to the corner of the kitchen. "Hey, Wes?" he whispered.
"Why are you whispering?" Wesley asked.
"I, um, I have something I need to ask you," he whispered. "And I don't want Fred to hear me because I'm worried she'd get upset if the answer is no."
There was a slight pause and then, "What is it?"
"We can't have sex anymore, can we?" Angel asked with a worried look.
"We were never having sex," Wesley pointed out with a snort.
"I meant Fred and I!" Angel said, a little loudly. He turned and grinned at Fred before waving at her. He really hoped she hadn't heard any of the conversation.
"Oh, yes, most couples continue to have sex throughout the entire pregnancy," Wesley said. "I've actually read numerous accounts--."
Angel pressed the end key on the phone and grinned at Fred. "Good news! We can still have sex!" He happily said before going over to her. He bent down and deeply kissed her.
Fred continued to eat her food as Angel walked away, whispering to Wes on the phone. She raised her eyebrows in confusion, wondering what in the world he could be talking to him about that he had to whisper, especially when he said something about the two of them before grinning and waving at her.
What in the world was going on?
Then suddenly, he hung up the phone and told her they could still have sex.
Fred stared at him in disbelief as he came over and kissed her deeply. She didn't move at first, a bit in shock that he had actually asked Wesley that. Of course, Wesley and Rupert both now seemed to know quite a bit about their sex life thanks to all this, but still...
When they finally broke apart so Fred could breathe, she looked up at him and shook her head. "I could have told you that," she said with a laugh, reaching up to rub her hand against his cheek. He was adorable when he got like this. And she was glad that he seemed to be so excited about all this and becoming a father. She knew that it was helping her, making her excited about becoming a mother even though there had been a time where she didn't think she could...or should. "Poor Wes. I think he knows more about the two of us than he ever wanted to know."
Setting down her fork, she slipped off the chair and took his hand. "I'm full now. Thank you for making that for me - it helped a lot." She felt a bit tired, though. "I think I'd like to go upstairs and rest for a bit, though, before Wesley and Rupert get back. Will you come with me? Or is there something you need to do while we're waiting?"
Angel stared at Fred for a moment. She could've told him that? Then why didn't she tell him? Now Wes was going to know what they did upstairs all the time. Crossing his arms, he perked an eyebrow. "You could've told me you knew so I wouldn't have asked Wes. Now he's going to know!" he said before waving his hands around.
When she said she was full, he looked down at the plate, just to make sure she'd ate enough. Fred was eating for two now and Angel was going to make sure she was eating enough and not picking at her food.
"I have nothing to do," he said, taking her hand. He really wanted to carry her up the stairs but she didn't seem to like that. "Just be careful of the steps. Make sure you step high enough so you don't trip of them."
They finally made it to their room and Angel opened the door. He guided Fred over to the bed and helped her get on it. "Is there anything you need? More pillows? A softer mattress?" he questioned as he wrung his hands together.
"It's possible, but we need the book," Wesley said, allowing Rupert to pull him up from his chair. He gave Fred a smile and leaned over to kiss her temple. "Don't worry, Fred. I'm sure it'll show something good if it is connected."
