Continuing wrist saga

I underwent the surgery a week ago to have a plate and screws inserted to reattach the bone that was broken off.  There was pain for days after, but mostly just in trying to flex my fingers (especially my thumb).  For the first two days after the surgery I was taking Oxycodone which I guess relieved the pain but also made me drowsy all the time and (TMI here) constipated :/.  I had thought Oxycodone was supposed to give you an euphoric feeling but none was had on my part.  I feel gypped.  I decided to try just taking regular Tyneol and that sufficed to dull the pain without the uncomfortable side effects.  Every day I kept planning on trying to work (from home) but deciding against it, so today was my first day working (at the office) in a week.

As in the week before surgery, I am still in a fabric wrapped splint to allow for swelling from the surgery.  This Friday I am due to get a hard cast for three weeks and hopefully that will be it.  Since I am not allowed to get this fabric wet, I have been forced to take baths (because I don't trust it staying dry in a shower under a plastic bag).  Trying to get clean in a bath one handed has proven just slightly easier than trying to make meals one handed.  My entire selection of dinner options has pretty much narrowed to microwave meals, since trying to clean cookware one handed is nigh impossible (remember, can't get fabric wrap wet).  Since baths take forever, I am now washing at night instead of in the morning (I already wake up before 6am) and just have to hope I don't get smelly while sleeping :).

Looking at myself in  the mirror tonight I could tell my right bicep was half the size of my left due to non-use/atrophy. I am really hoping I can start using my right arm at least a bit while in a cast since I already have plans to visit friends in Atlanta the first week of June.  I do not want to fly down not even being able to lift a gallon of milk with that arm.

Sleeping is still uncomfortable since I can not seem to find a position that does not cause some muscle strain somewhere along the length of my arm after a short while, so I have been tending to wake up multiple times during the night.  I am hoping that somehow that is lessened once I get the cast (although I no rational basis for thinking that).
