Say hello to my left hand

Apr 23, 2013 20:48

For the next few weeks my right hand/wrist is essentially going to be out of commission.  I can bend my fingers but there is a hard plastic piece of the splint I am wearing that is wrapped against my palm that prevents me from closing my hand much at all.  I saw the orthopedic surgeon today and my surgery is scheduled for next Tuesday.  I will have to wear this splint until then and for a week after (to allow room for swelling from the surgery), then I'll be in a hard cast for three weeks.  A metal plate with screws will be used to reconnect the piece of bone I broke off.

I made a judgement mistake riding Sunday, and this is the result, but I am finding myself being more annoyed with the effort of dressing/making food one handed than I am from any lingering anger from injuring myself (don't even ask about bathroom visits - I am right handed :).   Talking to my sister by phone today (she is a Radiologist doctor who used to ride bikes herself), she kept harping on my mistake.  I was almost at the point of getting angry with her and hanging up.  At this point I do not really see the benefit of constantly going over and over how I screwed up.

I am already scheduled to telecommute for work tomorrow which I think I'll be ready for, and tomorrow afternoon a friend has graciously offered to swap my stick-shift car for her automatic so I'll be able to drive to work Thursday (and for the foreseeable future).   Really good friends like her can be life-savers sometimes!

My wrist still hurts constantly on a dull, low level sort of way, but I am going to try to only take the prescription pain meds I was given before bed so I sleep easier.  Add insult to injury, the motorcycle leather jacket cleaners and darkened helmet visor I ordered from Amazon Saturday arrived today.  I hope I have a chance to use them eventually.
