This time, we'll get it right...

Biology lab rocked today. It was the fermentation lab, more commonly called "booze lab," in which we all made alcohol. I find it rather amusing that we have a lab where we make alcohol at a university where you'll most likely get kicked out if they catch you drinking. But anyway, the reason it rocked was because it was so easy. (I know some people live on challenges, but frankly, I'm not one of them. :p ) All we had to do was pick a sugar solution, add some yeast, shake it up and stick it in the incubator for an hour, checking it every 20 minutes to see how much carbon dioxide had formed. So while we were all waiting for our mixtures to ferment, we just sat around and talked about the biology exam coming up tomorrow.

I feel a lot better about the exam now. I'm still probably going to bomb it, but now I know I'm far from alone. Everyone I talked to seems to be just as overwhelmed as I am, and several upperclassman who have already taken Intro to Bio and survived have assured us that pretty much everyone does poorly on the first exam (unless you're some kind of genius), and that you can get a bad grade on the first exam and rebound. The upperclassman lab TA told us today that when she took the first exam in Intro to Bio, she got a 69%, but still ended up passing the class with a B-. So that's definitely reassuring.

Of course, I still have a ton of studying to do tonight if I'm going to even hope for a 69%. It'll be a busy night--along with all the studying, I have to make time for Survivor (priorities, priorities!), and Bible study. There's also going to be a unit meeting, but I think I'm going to have to skip that. And, oh yeah, a little sleep might be nice too. We'll see.

Random quote of the day: "But fear no more! I would not take this thing, if it lay by the highway. Not were Minas Tirith falling in ruin and I alone could save her, so, using the weapon of the Dark Lord for her good and my glory. No, I do not wish for such triumphs, Frodo son of Drogo."

---Faramir, "Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers"

That has to be one of my favorite LOTR quotes. Pity it didn't make it into the movie...
