Random things

• Chocolate-covered strawberries are the most amazing things in the world.

• Growing out bangs is frustrating. Mine are almost at the length where I can push them behind my ears and have them stay, but not quite. THE AGONY.

• My ancient medicine term paper was due by email at 9:00 this evening. I got it finished and sent off literally at 9:00 on the dot. Procrastination for the win!

• That term paper was the last assignment I had for this quarter. Now I can finally breathe...at least until the reality of finals sets in.

This podcast/interview with Zachary Quinto is awesome and it addresses the cockroach issue (massive spoilers for the finale, obviously). I am vindicated. I feel the vindication!

• Today I was surfing the internets while I should have been writing my paper and I discovered that Zachary Quinto went to a Catholic all-boys high school with a list of rules and regulations that would make Cedarville proud. I found that endlessly amusing.

• I really need to make Heroes icons assuming I can still remember how to make icons...

• I bought the Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End soundtrack off of iTunes, and I love it so. My favorite is the Davy Jones/Calypso locket-y theme. I also love the theme that starts at 5:38 on "I Don't Think Now Is The Best Time." BAAAAA BA DAAAAA BA DA BUM BUM BUM BA BUM BUM BOMMMMM! Also, "I See Dead People In Boats" might be the best track title ever.

• Speaking of which...To be honest, the first time I saw it, I left the theater going "...the frak was that?" It wasn't that I disliked it, per se, but it was just so very odd and convoluted that it threw me a little. The whole multiple Jacks thing, for example, with the peanuts and the crabs and the overabundance of white and the licking of rocks. That was utterly bizarre. I was thinking, "Erms...someone needs to tell the writers to step awaaaay from the special crack." Also, the whole thing seemed perhaps a bit more complicated than necessary. Halfway through the movie I had pretty much lost track of who was allied with who, who had betrayed who, who was dead, who was alive, who was under what curse, and so on. My brain is not developed enough to handle these things!

But the second time I saw it, I was surprised to find I liked it a whole lot more. Maybe it's just one of those movies that needs two viewings to fully process. And on the second go-around, I was prepared for the multiple Jacks weirdness, so I just took it in stride instead of being totally thrown off by it.

Quick thoughts in bullet-point form, because bullet-points are more fun than paragraphs:

- More Groves, yay! Still not enough Groves, boo! Not even saying Groves' name, double boo! I was really hoping they would throw a "Theodore" in there somewhere.
- They killed Norrie?! What the bzuh?! NOT ACCEPTABLE. But at least he got a smooch from Liz before he died...I guess that's supposed to be a good thing.
- Davy Jones and Calypso/Tia Dalma, awww. Nothing like a tragic love story filled with angst and betrayal and...tentacles.
- Calypso was...different. She just turned into a huge 50-foot blow-up doll thing, burst into crabs, and then...? I was expecting a little more out of that.
- I'm not a big fan of Elizabeth or Keira Knightley (except for in Pride and Prejudice, where she was made of awesome), but it was neat to see her get the traditional rousing We Must Fight For Freedom! battle cry speech. Female characters don't get those often enough.
- I'm with vampiric02--that so was not Keira's leg that Orlando Bloom was groping in the decidedly un-Disneylike scene near the end. I didn't think of it the first time, but I looked the second time, and yep--that leg was way too big to be Keira's. She's such a toothpick that I think both her legs could have fit into that one. Not only was that amusing, but I thought it was cool that, for one scene at least, they decided not to endorse Keira's skeletalness. Fat girls, FTW!
- Barbossa totally stole the show. I'm so glad they brought him back for the third one! He was awesome. No apples, though! Maybe peanuts are the new apples.
- As I already mentioned in the soundtrack bit, I loved the music. The music for all three films has really been pretty awesome. Same goes for the special effects; they were mindblowing as always.
-I've seen the film twice now, but I still haven't seen the scene at the end of the credits! I need to remember to stick around next time I see it.
