Owl to Draco Malfoy

Date: Wednesday, 27 February
Characters Involved: Draco Malfoy, Minerva McGonagall
Rating: G - it's just an owl.

On a plain piece of parchment:

Mr Malfoy,

Please forgive the delay in this. I received your request some time ago and Severus was forced to remind me of it only last week. I will not offer excuses. Yesterday's article brought stark relief to the importance of such things as this equal to any other duties I might have.

Enclosed you will find your statement. If personal testimony is required, please give me a week advance notice and I will be present, of course.

Don't take the Quidditch too much to heart. It's only your first year and it's good to see Severus taken down a notch or two. Next year will be better, I am certain. Severus said you might wish to have quarters here at the school? Let Filius know and he can set you up. Or Severus, for that matter, since he will soon be assuming those Deputy Head duties himself.

~Professor McGonagall

On very formal Hogwarts letterhead:

To Whom it May Concern:

Draco Phineas Malfoy was brought to Hogwarts School during the war - exact dates may be provided with unalterable proof by reviewing the records of the Hospital Wing. He was treated for extensive injuries and malnourishment and then spent the rest of the war in our protective custody.

At no time did Draco Malfoy ever participate in the war. Nor was he ever remotely disrespectful, threatening, or displaying of criminal behaviour at any time.

Since 1 September, 2001, he has been Slytherin House Coach for our Quidditch program. His work is exemplary. He is punctual, consistent, respectful to his superiours and rule-abiding (within the natural elasticity of heated Quidditch games).

I will vouch for his character at present and actions during the war under oath.

This statement is true and complete.

~Professor Minerva McGonagall,
Headmistress, Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
