Tutshill Topples Kestrels for Top Spot!

By “Pitch” Malbum

It came as no surpise that both the Kenmare Kestrels and the Holyhead Harpies, the teams that had dominated this year’s entire Quidditch season, beat both of their opponents in this week’s matches. The Kestrels left Portree no Pride in the Pitch at Bodmin and the Harpies clipped the Falcon’s wings on the Pitch at Exmoor. Fans who made the trek to the Yorkshire moors this past week were treated to an aerial show of strength as the Tutshill Tornados blasted the Chudley Cannons right out of the Pitch, landing the Tornados in first place after the first round robin of playoff games. The Tornados are baskng in their coveted first place whilst both the Harpies and the Kestrels stew in their perches over their fate in the second round of playoffs.

As Daily Prophet Quidditch fans know well, there is no mercy in the Winner take all Playoffs! By the luck of the draw and a cruel twist of fate the Harpies will now meet the Kestrels in the second round of the Playoffs and not as everyone in the know had expected and hoped, as winners in the final match of the season. One of these winning teams is going home to a winter of watching the League Cup match without their team in it, and that will be a bitter dose for the losers this week out at Yorkshire.

Terrance “Taffy” Tocknell - owner of the Tutshill Tornados and President of Q.U.A.C.K. (Quidditch United Association of the Concerned Keepers of Quidditch) was ecstatic about his team’s stellar showing this week on the Pitch. “The boys know how it’s done, ‘Pitch’,” the beaming Tocknell told this reporter. “Brevis Birch, our team captain, runs a tight ship out on the Pitch, ‘Pitch’. They go out there and play it one game at a time, just like every winning Quidditch team has for hundreds of years.” The delighted Taffy was loath to guess at his team’s chances this week as they meet the Wigtown Wanderers out at Bodmin. The Wanderers squeaked into the second round Playoffs, but as all Quidditch fans know, anything can happen on the Pitch in the Playoffs! This week it happened to the Kestrels and Harpies.

Good luck to all four teams that advanced to the Playoffs!

Pitch’s Pick of the Week: The teams have this week off but all eyes will turn to Yorkshire the first week of October when the Kestrels meet the Harpies in the Second Round Playoffs!
