Very few people remember their childhood summers as anything but endless, but Lucius was particularly reminiscent of this today. On waking he had decided upon a walk, leaving Malfoy Manor to stroll around the surrounding area. The clothes he wore now were a slight concession to the muggles who might see him, a black long sleeved shirt, and black jeans that looked much like trousers. It was the last day of August, and the weather was turning. Lucius was certain he could remember hot summers stretching into September, the windows of the Hogwarts Express wide open to let a welcomed breeze flood the train.

He had retired to his study with the intention of writing a letter, though that had been two hours ago now, and he hadn't so much as lifted a quill. Lucius' chair was turned at an 180 degree angle, so he could turn to face the window. He was remembering a summer passed, a day when they were in school and lounging by the lake. He'd 'accidentally' managed to drop Narcissa into the water, much to her horror, and ended up soaked himself. The memory of Narcissa's face on resurfacing after he'd dropped her made him smile.

Lucius turned back to his desk, dragging parchment towards him. Now that plans for their holiday had been finalised everything seemed merely to be killing the time until they left. He settled back into his chair, giving up the attempt of letter writing once again.
