It didn't take a lot to get Ron's stomach grumbling, usually just the whiff of a good meal coming from a stray chimney might set it off. As was the case almost immediately when he entered the small pub on his way to the Alley. He'd only just stepped through the door when it hit him, penetrating even the scent of old musty wood and stale alcohol that was always prominent in the establishment. A quick bite to eat couldn't hurt, and it had been a long time since he'd given the Leaky any business, so Ron made the decision then and there to have lunch.
Of course, as he walked up to take his order at the bar, he might have suspected to spot someone familiar- but he certainly wouldn't have expected to find someone like her there. Ordering his lunch, he'd have been happy to remain at the bar, if not a familiar head of almost white blonde hair hadn't spotted his eye, a lone woman hunched over and eating by the window. Ron glanced over his shoulder to find the barman gone before pushing himself up again and walking over...then hesitating a little when he saw it was who he thought.
Luna Lovegood. He'd not spoken to her in..well, a very long time. And yet, he still always considered her a friend...even if she was a bit awkward at times and did act a little off. Their relationship was never normal, persay. Back in school, Ron had considered her a good friend, but always found it hard to talk to her, even when with his other friends. Now, he was at a loss, but it was too late. It seemed she had spotted him, and Ron had little choice but to approach and grin a little. "Oi, Luna?? Bugger, what're you doing here?"
She heard her name and hadn't even noticed that he had come into the bar. She gave him her small smile and nodded to him, "Just having a bite instead of sitting at home alone." she replied, "And what of you? What brings you to the Leaky?"
It was strange to her sometimes, running into people she knew, it was like she knew them but she didn't know them at all. They were what she counted as friends. Ronald Weasley was one she had always had a bit of a time relating to. He came from a big boisterous family with big and brash personalities. She had never minded the Weasleys. They were all very nice people and while sometimes they could be a little rude (Ronald), in general, they were very nice.
"Having a bit of a bite yourself? Or did you come to find friends?"

Yeah, so asking her what she was doing in particular might have been a stupid question- seeing as it was obvious. He smiled a bit and scratched the side of his head, nodding at her plate and remarking. "Yeah, of course...sorry, I meant, well haven't seen you much at all lately. Though, m'happy to! I've been meaning to tell you good job on that article not too long ago about he rally!"
For once, Ron sounded sincere to Luna- because, well, he was! It was good to read the truth, even if it seemed to come from so few and so far between these days. Without even asking, he pulled up the seat beside her, falling into it and glancing up at the waiter before smiling back to the girl beside him.
"Well, technically m'just here to stretch my legs and have an afternoon outside Hogsmeade for once."

She just nodded to him, "It is a nice day to be away from one's work." she agreed, watching him. It was something she was used to, Ron Weasley complimenting her. She just took it, she didn't say anything about it though.
It was her job as a journalist to make sure that she told the truth as best as she could. "I did what any decent person would have done, given the chance."
A girl had been murdered, it was no less of a crime then the ministry covering up for Voldemort. She had known Remus Lupin since she was 12 years old, it wasn't something to say that his judgement and his word were anything less then honest. He was a good judge of character and if he said that Mandy Brocklehurst had been murdered, she believed him.
Ron nodded quietly, the tone sobering a bit at the reminder of the murders. It had been there before, in the conversation, but every time someone uttered that word out loud, it seemed to make it more...real.
"Yeah...well, it takes a decent and very brave person to stand up and write it down for everyone to read." His voice was a bit quiet as he said it, looking again up to find the waiter approaching. Ron asked almost immediately for a turkey sandwich with chips on the side, making sure Luna was good with just soup before they were alone again.
"Oi, you don't mind if I join you, do you?" Ron added as an afterthought. Really, it hadn't occurred to even ask the poor girl before he intruded on her meal. "You just looked a bit lonely here, and I figure it's been a while since we talked- but I can move."
"You've already sat down, haven't you? I haven't cursed you yet." she chuckled, wondering why everyone did that after they had sat down. Perhaps it was just polite, or perhaps it was just annoying protocol. She didn't know.
"It has been a while and I'm not awash in company, especially not here." she said, glancing towards the bar and the great man that owned the place. She wouldn't be surprised if Odette spit in her food.
"How have things been, Ron? I heard Harry and Hermione moved into London, did you as well?"
"These days, I never know who's going to turn a wand on me and who's not", he teased with a smirk, leaning an arm on the table as he talked. Ron was about to comment about the place when she mentioned his best friends...and his face paled a bit.
"Yeah, they moved." He answered flatly, hesitating a bit. Reaching up to scratch the back of his head, Ron went on. "I mean they're living together now- not like that! As friends. Hermione and I are sorta dating."
It was strange to admit, even now. His ears were a bit red as he confessed that he'd finally confessed what was obvious to so many others for years.
"It doesn't seem like much has changed since before the war, does it? Friends and Foes can often wear the same face." she sighed, looking at him, he was obviously uncomfortable with the topic of Harry and Hermione.
She just nodded when he mentioned that he was sorta dating Hermione. It had been obvious since her first year that someday they would end up doing that sorta dating thing.
"That had to happen sometime." she pointed out, there was nothing wrong with it. But she knew from personal experience that dating friends could lead to a very messy heartache.
"Yeah, I wish it'd be different...I mean, I dunno. I guess, I supposed after the war everything would be magically alright and we'd just...", he trailed off before he could finish, staring down at the table. It took only a few more moments for him to jump to the next topic, happy to do so and smiling again.
"Oi, everyone keeps saying that!" He tried to sound annoyed, but Ron couldn't hide the slight smile. "I guess we were pretty obvious, huh? To everyone but each other."
She didn't comment, it didn't need to be commented on. Hermione and Ron were like two batteries, they could rub each other the wrong way and put each other off, or they could cling together like glue. The trio had always stuck together, sure they had other friends, but it was always the three musketeers.
She just gave Ron a small smile and finished her lunch, she didn't know much of what to say to Ron Weasley. It wasn't as if they had a whole hell of a lot in common anymore. They weren't in the DA together anymore, the Order was practically dead... she didn't know what to say. She just waited for him to bring up the next topic.
An awkward silence fell over the two and poor Ron looked away, searching for the boy who was supposed to bring him his lunch. It wasn't that he disliked talking to Luna- but there was that...awkwardness that now existed between them. Nothing too horrible- but both had grown apart so much over the years- not that they were even that close in the first place. it felt that without anyone else there to hold things together their conversation was quickly deteriorating.
That's when he smirked. And then chuckled, shaking his head. "Huh. Sorry- I just realized, I don't think the two of us have ever spoken alone- not two words to one another and not in all these years, huh?"
The boy came by finally- or at least the plate did, floating through the air and landing before Ron who was grateful enough to immediately dig into his sandwhich.
