Christian Bartel and Steven Jaymesson apparated to the gates of Hogwarts at precisely 7:15 in the evening. Neither of them wished to be late for their first meeting with the Head of Slytherin House.
"I should have weatherproofed my shoes," Steven grumbled, as he squished in the damp grass. His brand new (and very shinny) shoes were already picking up moisture from the ground. Well, at least the path had been cleared of snow...
"I did warn you about that," Christian pointed out. He rubbed his gloved hands together, for additional warmth and looked up at the castle. "Ready?"
"Of course!" Steve replied, starting for the castle, but Christian grabbed his arm.
"We've never been here before, remember?" he reminded his partner. He lowered his voice to a whisper. "This is Snape we're dealing with. We have to be perfect."
Steve paused, at Christian's reminder. Inside the body of Steve Jaymesson, Fred Weasley took a deep breath and focused. This would be tougher than dealing with Ginny or someone at the shop. He couldn't afford to screw up.
"Right..." he finally said. "So how are we going to proceed?"
"We stay in character," Christian replied. "No matter what. You have your 'candy'?"
Steve nodded, patting one of the pockets of his trousers. Not wanting to appear to be immitating Moody, George had devised a way to get the polyjuice potion into a sort of "hard candy" form. The polyjuice part of the candy would disolve within five minutes, leaving behind a slower-melting breath mint, to cover up the smell of the potion and compensate for the bad taste. Of course, it would be rude for the two Americans to chew mints all day and not offer to anyone else, so the candies were stored within a container, along with real mints. That said mints had just gone on sale, in the Weasley shop, was merely coincidence. Christian and Steven worked with the twins. Naturally, they got free samples.
"All right then," Christian nodded.
