In his thick, ski jacket and boots, wearing a Santa hat, Colin trudged toward Madam Puddifoot's. He'd been keeping warm at the Three Broomsticks with warm mugs of butterbeer, waiting until this time when Lavender's job closed. Over his shoulder he carried his backpack, where he kept her gift - she was leaving the next morning for France and he wouldn't be seeing her on Christmas day, so they'd decided to exchange gifts tonight.
The lights had been turned off at the tea shop, but he could still see though the frosted window pane the colourful lights of the tree twinkling and movement inside. Pushing his face up against the window, he knocked with one, mitten clad hand.
