The best way to get through this, Perry decided, was to simply not think about it. Of course, this was easier said than done, and when the occasional reminder of what lay ahead entered his mind he would spend several minutes trying to think of noteworthy information for her. Still, this was the problem he'd always had, and so he would instead try thinking of things that seemed completely irrelevant like
June had suggested, until he got sick of it and returned to trying not to think at all.
It was still difficult, this idea of letting someone into his life, even if it was his girlfriend. For so long it had been just him and his thoughts and memories that it seemed only natural to keep them to himself. His packmates had tried to coax him into talking about himself before, but he rarely relented; and when he did he had little of substance to offer. In fact, the most he had said about himself to anyone in a very long time had been during his
interview with the Ministry.
This was different, though. This was Pansy. This was him giving her
the one thing she had asked for since they first started seeing each other.
The only way to keep from losing his nerve was to simply not think about it. At least, not until it was necessary.
Not until Pansy was there, in his room, and Perry was closing the door, and there was nothing left to hide behind but silence. He turned the lock in the knob - not that he think anyone would bother them, but just in case. And then, for a moment he just stared at her. His back remained against the door, leaving her to seat herself if she chose. He was too busy trying to think how to start.
Finally he decided to go with the most useless piece of information he could think of, and he grinned. "So. Glamis - the old...." He'd nearly said 'wolf,' but changed his mind. "...The old man. He caught me on my way in from your place, Thursday morning."
