There was no help for it. Lupin would have to be told. He'd seriously considered just leaving a note when he left Monday morning, but decided that was 'low' even for him. Especially considering that he would have to be Apparating home briefly in the evening - regardless of the status of the game - in order to make the very slight but completely necessary manipulations to the Wolfsbane Potion, which would require attendance at midnight of each day of the first quarter - unfortunately occurring on the same day as the Quidditch Series, to which he now had tickets.

And a date.

Was it a 'date'?

At any rate, not wanting to be hexed - or worse - coming into his own home at quarter 'til midnight, unannounced and unexpected, he was going to have to tell Lupin where he was going.

With luck, he might be able to conceal with whom.

Either way, Severus had no doubt that Lupin was going to have a very great deal of 'fun' at his expense.

Still, he was resigned, and indeed, there was no help for it.

Leaving the cauldrons to simmer and sending out the last of his completed commissions for the day, he went through his 'closing' routine to end his primary brewing time in his lab, making sure instruments were washed and put away, fires over long-simmering potions properly banked, cupboards locked and sealed, before making his way up through the kitchen and into the sitting room.

He felt ridiculously elated when one pointed glower at the current Auror watchdog sent the rather skinny girl rushing off to her 'room' with an excuse of a 'report' to make. He'd been practising his 'menacing glower' on each of them in turn, with varying degrees of success. It was necessary, after all, to regain 'top form' before he returned to teach in less than a month!

It probably helped, in this case, that the young Auror in question still seemed to bear a faint scar across her wrist from a particularly unpleasant detention he still remembered vividly. Declawing Fire-Crabs was very dangerous work, and had to be done while they were still very much alive and fighting, for optimum efficacy in potions.

Smirking wickedly, he sat down in the chair she had vacated in such a hurry - she ought to have known better than to sit in 'his' favourite chair, anyway - and selected a book from the shelf behind him, reading contentedly while he waited for Lupin to make an eventual appearance. If the werewolf didn't turn up in the next hour or so, Severus would go looking for him, but for now, knowing he'd terrified his unwanted 'house-guest' out of his sitting room was quite satisfactory.
