A perfect weekend in New York.

Oooh, I have so much to say.

So after rushing Dirty Rotten Scoundrels 5 times and losing to the small weekday crowds, I decided to give it one last shot on Saturday. I went by myself and there were seriously a zillion people in the lottery.

Of course, I was the third person called.

So I go inside to get my FRONT ROW CENTER seat, and I hear my name behind me. I turn around, and who's standing there but the fabulous Andrew Ford! Amazing, he won too! Seriously, it was such an incredibly funny, wonderful show. How fabulous to sit in the front row! Sherrie Rene Scott jumped out of the orchestra pit right in front of me...

And....Norbert Leo Butz dry humping John Lithgow mere feet away, just priceless.

Then yesterday was everything I've ever hoped and dreamed for in a day of musical theatre, when I witnessed the one-night-only US Premiere of the Symphonic Version of Jason Robert Brown's Songs for a New World. In-freaking-credible. In honor of the 10th anniversary of the original staging, he re-orchestrated the entire score for a full orchestra and the ORIGINAL CAST (Jessica Molaskey, Brooks Ashmanskas, Andrea Burns), plus some guest stars such as:

John Tartaglia
Emily Skinner
Brian d'Arcy James
Kristine Fraelich
Jerry Dixon
Beth Leavel
Lawrence Clayton
Christine Pedi
Michael Arden
Nikki Renee Daniels
Andre Garner
Danielle Lee Greaves
Jennifer Prescott
Tally Sessions
Michael Cerveris
Nicole van Giesen
Drew McVety
Darius deHaas
Miriam Shor
Anthony Manough

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAND, Jason Robert Brown himself on piano. And on some pieces, conducting, which was an absolute pleasure to witness. I consider him the definitive genius of music composition, and he's perhaps equally as talented with a baton in his hand. Who knew?

The best part of the entire experience was the fact that there was no backstage door, so when the performance was over, these icons of theatre just exited into the audience and walked out onto 95th street to hail cabs and walk to the subway with the rest of us. I stopped to chat with John Tartaglia (asked me which direction the subway station is), Andrea Burns (lives in Philadephia with her husband and walked north on Broadway with a friend) and Jessica Molasky (has a beautiful daughter and hailed a cab south on Broadway)...very surreal for me, considering the (literally) thousands of hours I've spent listening to their voices in the car, in my room, on the subway, at work, etc.)

I looked really cute, too.
