I think that there’s also a level of being told/shown that when something is “too” (which is not a constant threshold) made up, “too” “feminine” (also not a constant threshold) that the person is also vapid by default. For some reason, I’ve got the knee jerk reaction that sparkly=airhead and I don’t know where that comes from. Which, (I don’t *think*) is the same as beauty=airhead or feminine=airhead, but that nebulous value of sparkle. It isn’t an elegant equation, and is nebulous at best. Something I’ll have to self study.
However, WRT Lady GaGa as a character, or a costume that Johnny Weir has when he skates, I gotta fall back to Gladiator: “Are you not entertained?” And both are highly entertaining imho because the drag they put on, in context, is part of the show. Like the time Scott Hamilton wore everything from an afro wig to Sonny & Cher wigs when he skated to “Hair” in a tv competition years ago. It was just damn entertaining and a scream to watch.
But anyway, all very cool to read and is something for me to self-investigate. One of the things I enjoy with your blog, Trin (and commentors). :D
