I got up at 7am to take my first pill. So far I'm still *really* tired, but have no gut pain without taking a pain pill, which is wonderful!
Apparently the pernicious anemia I've been dealing with for the last 10 years or so can be associated with hypothyroidism. Apparently a number of women develop hypothyroidism as they're going through menopause, and the symptoms of menopause mask the symptoms of hypothyroidism. Also, a number of women develop hypothyroidism during pregnancy, I've given birth six times and a tumor was discovered on my thyroid during the 5th pregnancy and continued to grow during the 6th pregnancy.
It makes me wonder about that time I went to the doctor because I was so completely exhausted all the time and he said, "Look, any woman with six kids is going to be tired" and wouldn't listen when I tried to tell him I knew the difference between tired from working hard and tired from something else. I'd like to find that guy and kick him where all his descendants for the next 6 generations would feel it.
Christy (one of our two daughters who is currently studying nursing) told me yesterday that it used to be that when a child had something wrong with their thyroid, they ended up committed to an institution because the symptoms made them seem "mentally retarded".
How many people across America are dying or incapacitated from things that are easily treatable, but they don't have insurance so they're just screwed?
