i seem to be precisely one week behind on my posts; on sunday, i posted about the sunday prior, and now, on wednesday, i'm posting about last wednesday.
wednesday was another busy day.
i started out by going to ikea in burlington with my sister and mother, and i had a 50 cent hot dog while they bought a bed and some other crap for my sister's new apartment.
then, my mother and i i went on to the
shaw festival in niagara-on-the-lake to see a matinee ibsen's rosmersholm. first time i've been exposed to ibsen at all, and i'm not too sure how i felt about it. it was well-acted, the story just wasn't really my style, i suppose. very political, all about a respected family and their paradigm shift to communism. the theatre it was in was *really* intimate... which is the boutique way of saying that it was tiny. somehow, we ended up in the front row (my mother's a member... i know, how posh. we even had a little piece of paper on our seats welcoming us as members.), and the show literally took place inches away from us. there were times when i could've reached out and touched the actors or props, and i was afraid they might trip over my feet if i put them out too far. that made it an interesting experience, to say the very least.
also worth noting, and somewhat exciting, was the fact that
william hutt, who is a world-renowned shakespearean thespian, was in the audience! his nephew, also an actor, was in the show, so he was there to see it. i just happened to look over to my right during the first act, and thought he looked familiar, then asked my mom at the start of the intermission if that was who i thought it was, and she confirmed that it, indeed, was. my mother was far more excited than me, because she always loved hutt's acting at the
stratford festival, so she was all nervous about talking to him, but eventually overcame the nerves and approached him during intermission to ask if he was enjoying the performance. so that was pretty cool!
after the show, my mother and i dropped by my sister's apartment in st. catherines to make sure she didn't kill herself putting the bed together. she didn't. mom stayed there to help with the apartment, and i drove to toronto to meet some former university classmates for a blue jays game. it's been a looooong fucking time since i've been to the sky dome (yes, i know it's technically the "rogers centre" now, but fuck all y'all, it'll always be the muthafuckin' sky dome to me). i made it *just* in time to meet everyone in line and get them to buy a ticket for me. since i was in such a rush, i had to pay fucking $20 for parking. damn you, toronto!
i was a little bit leery about how the experience would go, considering i hadn't seen some of these people in a couple of years, and most of them have moved on to bigger and better things (ie. already finished second degrees), whereas i'm still patiently waiting for september to finish off that good ol' bachelor's. fortunately, there was one other individual there that was taking his time in getting through ye olde
arts & science programme, so i didn't feel *completely* out of place. so if you ever happen upon this, thanks tom! :op
the game was fun, despite the $9 beers (and it was fucking budweiser, too! ugh.). the entirety of my university house was in attendance, and then some. it really seemed like everyone was pretty much the same. kinda strange, actually, but cool.
after the game, the usual party poopers made their respective ways home, while a few of us trekked halfway across the city (or so it seemed) for food and drink, not to mention gossip and trash-talk concerning some of our former classmates. then i drove tom back to hamilton, so he wouldn't have to wait for the go bus, and made my way home myself.
*phew* i'm exhausted just recounting it!
and now i suppose i should get to sleep, considering i have to be up at the fucking ass-crack of dawn tomorrow for a 7:30 am meeting at work where the lucky fuckers that went to the trade show last week tell us about all the free shit they got, and bestow upon us the knowledge of all that is "up-and-coming" in the world of retail computers (a.k.a., what was new a year ago for professionals). and it's my fucking day off!!!
hmmm, i don't know if the full extent of my bitterness completely came across there. if it didn't... *BITTER*
and done.
