go robot, it's yer birthday

well, that's another birthday come and gone. i'm now a member of the quarter-century club.

went out for dinner with my family last night at red lobster to celebrate. i love seafood, but red lobster is pretty much the only seafood restaurant in town, and my family has something against it for some reason, so the only day i can convince them to go is my birthday. mmm, 30 shrimp.

no embarassing birthday song or anything, though. that was a relief.

then we came home and it was time for presents! my dad got me a fucking LIGHTSABER. and not a crappy plastic one, either... a force fx darth vader lightsaber (that's right... dark, side muthafuckas!!)... metal, with a full-sized blade that lights up, and sound effects taken right from the movies. *geekasm* he apparently caught me eyeing them when we were at f.a.o. schwartz in new york back in february, so he actually had them ship it from there back to canada... a very thoughtful gesture. i didn't have the heart to tell him he probably could've saved a fuckload on shipping if he's ordered it online. :p

i definitely spent about a half hour last night after i got it swinging it around in the dark living room... my dad was mortified i was gonna break something with it.

but this is what i don't understand... the instructions say you're not supposed to strike anything with it, although the blade is very durable. if that's the case, then why the fuck did they give it a "clash" sound effect!! why have it make noise when you hit something if you're not supposed to do it?! i figure they're just covering their asses.

but back to presents... my sister got me a shirt that says "myspace will ruin your life," and my parents also got me beck's recent album guero (one of my all-time favourite albums), the coachella dvd, which was partially filmed at the concert i was at two summers ago, and two of the recent disney treasures dvds; the chronological donald, volume 2 and disney rarities - celebrated shorts.

so i turned 25, but my presents clearly say otherwise. 25 going on 12... :D

thanks to those that sent me birthday wishes.

geekery, links, family, star wars, sci-fi
