Guys. Guys.
I'm aware that you're supposed to do stupid things at Fresher's Week. I know this. It's the point of Fresher's Week, right? I thought, 'oh man. I'm going to join some really lame society and end up with boring obligations all year, or drink way too much wine and fall down the stairs in the union, or maybe end up swimming in the freezing cold ocean. Haha. Wouldn't that be silly?' I expected that.
Well. Um.
One thing I didn't expect to do was sign a pretty much legally binding contract to do a
156FT SAS-STYLE ABSEIL OFF THE SIDE OF THE FORTH RAIL BRIDGE.
That link will take you to the Chest, Heart and Stroke Scotland website, which is the main charity that the abseil is for. Really, though, all the money raised goes towards the main
St Andrew's Charity Campaign, and its six sponsored charities: Chest Heart and Stroke Scotland, UNICEF, the Breast Cancer campaign, Refuge, Alzheimer Scotland, and Joy to the World. At the end of the year, all money raised (which goes into a massive big pot) gets split into six and each charity gets its share.
Last year the university raised just under £60,000.
I just need to raise £95.
... :D?
So basically, guys: yes, I'm begging for money again. If you have any kind of donation at all - even just a quid - please paypal it to starless_waters_far_astray@hotmail.com (with ABSEIL OF DEATH or something in the subject) or contact me here in the comments.
This Sunday I'm going to be free-fall abseiling from a very tall structure - hopefully my pain is worth it?
