OH Dean, for once don't question. It was Mom, what's the difference if the memory was made up of a variety of fragments. Enjoy the memory..You deserve it.
You know it'll always be in Dean's mind, after that experience, when Sam didn't like him very much - wondering whether his mom would like him, or his dad, or if they'd feel he was a disappointment (not wanting to be a lawyer, like Sam). If the fire hadn't happened, he probably would have been a mechanic. But a devoted, hardworking one? Or a good-time Charlie? Who knows.
Personally? I think he'd be a work hard, play hard type of worker. I think he'd start in the garage where John worked, and maybe even come into the business. Or . . .
I can see him like my BiL, working on cars for people who come to him because a friend of a friend told them he was good. He might also end up teaching shop at a vocational school or something.
I'm guessing not too many lawyers work on their own cars. :-)
This is the day where we ponder Dean And The Garage. Since John had died of a stroke, what became of his half-ownership of the garage? Would Dean take on something like that? Would the family as a whole keep it, with Dean being an employee until he was ready to step up to management? Would he want to be management at all?
I could see him teaching shop. And being the most popular teacher at that school.
And it struck me this morning (while I was writing Ultra!Dark!Sammy) whether either or boys would be thinking, Dean would have been better off staying in that dream world - where at least he would have experienced a full, happy life before going downstairs. Poor Dean indeed.
