Dear various authors,
So you've got a scene where the hero finally has the villain pinned and is ready to deliver the killing blow. The villain is an unquestionably nasty sort -- rapes and murders without remorse, has a personal vendetta against the hero and/or heroine.
And then the heroine yells for the hero to stop.
Do not do this unless there is a VERY good reason for her to do so. Reasons include, but are not limited to:
* "We've got enough evidence to arrest the villain and have them legally executed, without you having to hire a lawyer to ensure your actions are seen as being self-defense!"
* "The Magic Book says that being stabbed with an iron sword will only make him stronger -- here, use this silver one!"
* "I call dibs!"
If it's just a moral issue, I want to punch them.
