So Kendall and I got in an argument a couple hours ago about futures/careers/grad school/etc. Kendall thinks that grad school is terribly important, and I realize that in some cases it is. I understand that she's planning on being a veterinarian and therefore needs medical training. But in the case of anyone hoping to pursue a career in any of the ( Read more... )

That is definatly true but you really need a back-up plan. I'm not talking about going to grad school but maybe you could take a class to develop your writing. I don't know maybe you already know your style but it is always like a cushion if things don't pan out.

you make it sound like life is going to be so easy and you are just going to be able to do whatever you want and be comfortable doing it. thats not the way its going to go. and your "if i cant write novels..." plan... havent seen you working on that one so much. its great in theory but what i dont understand is your unwillingness to work hard for whatever you want. if writing is all you want, go for it. but damn... put in the work to get there. i think youd be an excellent music reviewer, but you havent really tried to get your foot in the door anywhere. no internships, no writing jobs, nothing outside of school is not going to get you far. hell, im as romantic as anyone, and yeah its ideal to just sit and write all day and be successful, but im a realist too, and things just dont happen like that. maybe you forgot what it was like, but i remember when i was poor and had no idea if i had a meal for that night and couldnt buy new shoes when my old ones were falling apart at the seams. i will never let myself get like that again-- i ( ... )

I doubt that we're going to see eye to eye on this anytime soon and especially not through discussing it on livejournal, but for the record, I wasn't calling you a fascist. I just happened to be listening to the song. Go back and look at my past entries. My subjects rarely have anything to do with my actual entries. Sorry for the mix-up.

One of the customers that came into Planet Smoothie (where I work) had been in the hotel industry for 20 years (that's my major-Hospitality) said that while I was young I would love it, but then when I'm 40 I should have a plan B. I would love to have some little cafe somewhere or be an investor in art of some type of business. There are so many aspects to me; to what I love. Grad school isn't an option right now, though I do hope to go to culinary school when I get my first job. I intend to work hard in everything I do, but I guess you could say that I'm hoping for the best. Like I've told Kyle, I want to be happy above all else. If you go to school for a job you're going to hate, then you won't be happy. What's the point? No one wants to live a miserable life. Well, that's my opinion for what it's worth.
