Castle watched the stubborn woman he married as she tried to stand up unassisted. Kate Beckett-Castle was almost eight months pregnant with their first child and had difficulty rising from the sofa without help, not that she was willing to ask for any.
"Baby, why won't you let me help?"
She sighed. "I'm a grown woman. I should be able to get up without help."
"You're also eight months pregnant," he told her, helping her to stand despite her protests.
She nodded and walked in the direction of the bathroom for the tenth time in the last hour. Castle watched her go with a small smile. She wasn't used to asking for help. He walked into the kitchen and began pulling things from the cabinet.
When she rejoined her husband ten minutes later, there was a mug waiting for her. "What's that?" she asked.
"Tea," he said simply, handing it to her.
"Thank you," she whispered as a tear fell.
"Oh, baby, don't cry," he told her, brushing her tear away.
"I'm sorry."
"You have nothing to be sorry for," he told her. He opened his arms to her. "Come here."
She fell into his arms, laying her head on his chest. "I love you."
"I love you, too," he told her, kissing her softly as she closed her eyes, suddenly exhausted.
