Scully sat on her porch, a book and a cold glass of lemonade by her side. She picked up her book and looked across the yard. Mulder was chasing Elizabeth and Danny, the hose in his hands, attempting to get them wet. She smiled. He was such a good father. She took a sip of her lemonade and opened her book. She read exactly one sentence before a shriek pulled her attention away. When she looked up, both kids were soaked from head to toe, and what's more, so was her husband.
"Hey, Scully, come join us," Mulder called, around a smile.
"Yeah, Mommy," Elizabeth and Danny piped up.
Knowing she would only be fighting a losing battle, she put her book aside and slowly made her way to her family, noticing the gleam in their eyes. When she got within about ten feet of them, cold water hit her. Mulder stood grinning as he drenched her. She laughed and ran after her husband, the kids just behind her, their laughter ringing in her ears.
When the sun went down three hours later, they were hungry and tired but happy. It had been filled with a lot of laughter and fun. It had been the perfect summer day.
